They're all equaled, but my best bet is Revell simply because of the fun childhood memories it gave me when I came to the U.S. back in 1975...WE STILL LOVE YA!

Great info! As someone who is just getting into the hobby, I have only built two kits and am working on my third. My first kit was a Dragon M2A1 Halftrack which was simply outstanding to build. My second was a Tamiya Jeep Willys MB, and the third that I just started was the Revell GMC pickup. All three kits have gone together very well with little to no fitment issues, and the kits really boil down to the details. For a novice builder such as myself, I like the extra detail.

Personally I love those older Monogram-Revell kits, they are probably my all time favorite kits to build. They have great detail and are just a ton of fun, price is good too. Then in second place for favorite kits would be Tamiya, I love the fact that I buy a kit and I know it will basically go together nearly perfectly with little to no fuss. I really love both manufactures and I could pick a favorite between the 2 they are both excellent to me :D Great question :)

I cut my modeling teeth on Revell 1/48 aircraft. But, after building Tamiya kits, I'll pay the price for them. The fit, detail, engineering, and consistency is so much better than the Revell kits. Just my personal opinion. I've built a few of their cars as well, and they are awesome but usually are "curbside" kits with no engine detail.

I agree to a certain point but Revell lost the plot a long time ago and their molding are now very poor. I find you get more value for money from Tamiya for commission builds.

I grew up with Monogram, Revel and to me it's Tamiya hands down . most of the molds tor the Monogram and Revell kits are fairly long in the tooth and it takes a lot of work to get a good fit and finish on them.

Depends on what you want the kit for. expensive kits are good if you are willing to spend the time - you have the ressources to take things to the next level, but it is a waste of money otherwise. There are also great kits from other manufacturers, like Academy and the excepcional Eduard. In general, newer kits (2000,s molds and onwards) have better quality be they Revell or Tamiya

I have yet to see a bad tamiya kit but revell is hit or miss. I would rather pay a bit more and know its good than to buy something and find out its junk, just look at the AMT Opel Gt I bought, it was $30 some and its a heap.

Sweet mate I have only done cars but from looking at the revel to tamiya, tamiya is awesome but yeah the price is a bit more but paying what I pay for kits it's not that more than revel for me. I stocked up on Tamiya kits while I had the cash. Have a good one bro

I usually go for the higher end kits more details worth the extra bucks. But I also like Revell and Revell germany. For the beginner go Revell and get more kits for your money while learning the ropes. Since kits are expensive I tend to wait for hobby shows to buy rebate from vendors.

I always thought that revel models are okay, but I would take a amt or Mpc kit over revell. I have been wanting a tamiya kit for many years now, but have yet to get one. But I do always use only tamiya paints and tools. I used to do plains but now I'm strictly only cars. I am working on a revell baricuda and a Mpc 1969 hurst Oldsmobile.

im into cars but gonna dabble into planes here one day..for me i usually hit ebay for my kits no model shops where i live..have a michaels 45miles away but they want Tamiya prices for AMT kits no lie..so i usually always try to bid on a tamiya kit but it always bids up by auction end and i end up with a AMT or Revell kit..which nowadays new Revell kits are very nice and round 2 is trying to get amt line little better so i have yet to get a tamiya kit cant wait to try one..

Okay, those dream, have to build kits you were talking about..... the creme de la creme kit, in your opinion, would you be satisfied with the economical dream build or totally blow your wad and budget dream build? That is how I'm thinking, build some cool stuff on a budget and MAKE it better through my skills. When I have the pinnacle build in mind, go for broke and buy the best. If I had all the cash in the world, I would have Dr. Cranky build it, LOL. Good Q&A thrown out there. Later.

Some Revell kits are the almost 50 year old Monogram molds. Tamiya of the 70's just as "toy" like. Both companies have updated molds. Just more so from Tamiya. Pay for it to.

as far as cars go i like the Tamiya kits. I know they dont build classic American muscle like Revell does, but I believe you get your moneys worth. planes,well, I'm going to find out with the Revell Dornier Do 335. I might not get the Tamiya one though.

+Jan Haayer awesom!! very quickly answer!! thnx a lot...i´m a rookie in plastic air model, and i wonder is the details are much better in a 1/32 than in a 1/48 scale...perhaps a tamiya 1/48 got the same details as a revell 1/32...what u say? (sorry for my bad english lol)
@NorthViewModelShop

+Diego Brana tamiya dose have better detail but you pay for it. 1/32 is a bit harder to find in both brands and when you do the price is a lot... I would suggest the revell product for the ease and if the bugs for modelling hits you then the more expensive kits will be in your future

+Jan Haayer i dont like easy stuff heheh always prefer the hardest on an with better details...i think i gonna choose the tamiya 1/48 for all the details an besides for the space...1/32 is a lot bigger to put in a case...so, beside the money, tamiya is the one qith the greatest details in landing gear, cockpit, etc etc? rigth? thnx a lot for your help jan (here in argentina is hard to find 1/32 as 1/48...too bad)

Personally, I haven't built anything other than cars...yet! I do plan on building my Titanic kit as well as a few planes, tanks, etc. From where I am financially, the Revell, (or equivalent) is more logical. Will I buy Tamiya kits strictly for their attention to detail and ease of assembly? ABSOLUTELY! The Tamiya kits are in their own class with Hasegawa, Aoshima, to name a few. My preferences are torn though, as certain manufacturers produce kits that some others do not. I mix n match.
@bigdaddy6879

For instance, Tamiya doesn't produce a 1966 Chevelle...Revell does. Revell doesn't make a lot of kits Tamiya does, so it just depends on what I am building. I have no problem dishing out the dough to build what I want. It will always boil down to finances and how much I have to play with. I also have no qualms with cutting up an expensive kit either. Lol

Revell is a modeler's model, where as Tamiya is an assembler's model. Tamiya has more parts and better detail, but you pay for those parts and detail. Nothing wrong with a Revell kit, I sell a ton of them here at my shop. Depends on the subject as well, both lines have kits that aren't available in the other's lines, so sometimes you don't have a choice. However, there are more companies out there than just Revell and Tamiya. Give some of the others a chance to wow you.

ive always done revell, and all the little issues, fitment, etc i assumed were part of the hobby. lack of detail, bad scaling, poor instructions, cheaper warping plastic. that is until i started buying kits from other companies. guys, dont be fooled. revell is the bottom of the barrel brand of the modelling universe.

Revell is not bad,revells plastic models have strong plastic,great detailing decals,if you compare revell with airfix or academy you would see that revell is not a waste of money,the only problem with revell is the decal instructions.
