I love this comic so much, I just remember I wanted the full volume when was release and forget to look for it until today because of this video (just buy it now), this is easily one of my favorites if not the most favorite of all Supergirl stories, absolutely love the artwork, the story and the characters, easily my favorite version of Kara Zor El, hope James Gunn and his crew respect this comic with the adaptation and hope does a good job, as long they adapt it well and not changing into some agenda driving political pile of crap like Marvel and DC are turning all their properties. This is a great story about Grief, broken people, acceptance, and more important FORGIVENESS, a story that wear its heart in it's sleeve with proud, the art of Bilquis Evely with the magnificent colors of Matheus Lopes just pop the beauty of each panel so much, I really hope the adaptation capture all that and people finally get a GOOD Supergirl live action adaptation that live up to it's potential....although I would have love to see this story rather been made in animation, something like SPIDERVERSE, it would be one if not the most beautiful animated film ever.

“Even in an indifferent universe, caring still matters.” My favorite Neil Gaiman novel, Anansi Boys, talks about stories, and how they shape the world by shaping the people. When Tiger owned the stories, they were all dark, brutal stories about how hard the world was, about fear, and how survival through force was all that mattered. When Anansi owned the stories, they were about being clever, and being a trickster; about getting work done without working as hard, but ultimately about hope and joy. I feel like we’re currently fighting a war about whose stories are true: is the world a hard place, where we should fear those who aren’t part of our tribe, or does caring and love extend to those who don’t look like us, or benefit us?
@wafagdplqs4421

I've always found the potential of Kara as a character very interesting. This story is just perfect in that regard in my opinion ! Like you said there is an harmony between "emotional realism and it's apirational perspective". Not to mention it's a story about Supergirl *without* Superman, it's truly *her* story, something I really appreciate because it allows Kara to be something else than just a young girl who don't want to be regarded as Superman's cousin while also wanting Clark to be proud of her. It's a touching story about her loss, about a more mature yet still broken Kara. She heals by trying to help someone else healing from a similar pain in a journey where they bond and help others overcome their suffering in some way or another. Also the art is as beautiful as the story itself omg !
@NichoMania2

Can't agree more, honestly it's the Deluxe Edition story I'm waiting to be announced already. The art alone is worth that large format, let alone the story. I think my only problem with the story ended up being when Kara said she 'hates superman' when she was on that anti-superman planet, but that might've just been a knee jerk reaction, since I've had some ups and downs with Tom King stories and characters I already liked, and I feel Supergirl wouldn't really think/say that...but maybe it was just the state she was in or something. 😅 [Ups: Superman-Up in the Sky, parts of Heroes in Crisis, parts of Mr Miracle, his Batman run, Vision. Downs: Strange Adventures, parts of Heroes in Crisis, parts of mr Miracle, and some smaller parts of the Batman run, but honestly it gets way too much hate imo] But the rest of the story was great, and I felt like some moments really hit home. Personally, I like a more optimistic/perky Kara, silver-age style/less 'anger issues' style [idk why writers really want to give Kryptonians anger issues as their 'key flaw' so often...I mean even Clark gets that a lot🤔], but I know that's kind of fallen out of fashion, maybe even as far back as the DCAU version. But still, I'd say as far as Kara stories go, this one is up there as one of the greats. 😁

@@wafagdplqs4421 They really do 😅 I get it probably comes from a place of hightening tension in super-family stories. Give the character who can decimate buildings in a single punch anger issues, see what finally lights that short fuse of theirs! Super tension abound! But I also think it doesn't fit most of them, really. Especially Clark, it feels like good ol 'embodiment of hope' midwest farmboy Clark Kent wouldn't have that kind of issue, given his usual demeaner, especially in the face of daunting odds. Kara's a give or take, if she's silver agey, then it really doesn't fit either. But if it's a moderny angsty Kara, then maybe. Power Girl.....maybe. But she always hit me as more of a kind of proud/almost sassy kind of superheroine, than angry. Conor....okay yeah, maybe Conor. 😅tho it does depend on his era too... it's very odd how they all get hit with it at some point though...

And this is why the Super family (specifically Clark and Kara) are the GOAT Superman (Clark Kent) - The last son of a dead planet sent to earth; an alien growing among humans YET became one the most human out of all. Willing to risk his own life to save another. The Symbol of Hope. Supergirl (Kara) - The last daughter of her "planet" being able to endure all this hardship and YET still finding hope for a better tomorrow, hope to inspire, hope to become better. Best ending on a quote than no other than Superman: "Dreams save us. Dreams lift us up and transform us into something better. And on my soul, I swear that until my dream of a world where dignity, honor and justice are the reality we all share, I'll never stop fighting. Ever."

I like the look of the comic book in what appears to be from about the 1920s. In other stories of Krypton, Kara is older than her cousin, Kal, but because of differing effects of space-time distortions on the way to Earth, Kal arrives at an earlier date and becomes ‘older’. So the 1920s look may be accurate. I wonder whether the artist and author created this on purpose.

Supergirl/Kara Zor-El is what got me into reading DC Comics and watching their movies and vice versa, her whole character is somewhat powerful, inspiring and very relatable. I've even related to her a few times when growing up, couldn't believe that a comic book, fictional character actually saved my life when I was going through the worse time in my life, High School had screwed me over mentally with the amount of bullies I had to deal with on a daily basis before I snapped completely, went through a deep depression, refusing to go to school, couldn't even get out of bed, couldn't even eat or drink... My anxiety was getting worse around that time as well so I was put on medication before being home schooled finally, but through that dark time, I read up on comics about Supergirl, Woman of Tomorrow made me realize that Kara Zor-El's character somehow saved my life without me realizing it, I read her comics when I was going through the trauma of dealing with my anxiety, along with my own dad going through it as well, it was the worse time for both of us... But Kara somehow kept me going, it was like she was there with me, telling me to "hold on a little while longer, it's going to be okay, you're stronger than you think" With her own trauma of losing home many times, I relate to that, I've moved from home to home with family a few times, having to say goodbye to the friends and family I've met and never see them again, it was another reason why I relate to her so much. So I say again... Supergirl saved my life... I only wish I could thank her if she existed in person, to tell her how thankful I am of her saving my life through a dark time of my own.

It really isn’t envy or anything, it’s just that most people hated his Batman run(Personality I don’t have a strong opinion on it , though I can definitely understand why other people feel so strongly about it). The ideas just weren’t revived well like the idea that Bruce became Batman as his form of suicide(which mind you is supposedly something Bruce thought of when he was 8), people also hated Heroes in crisis due to people feeling like it assassinated Wally West’s character(people also felt it just didn’t explore the topic of trauma well, and other people felt that King is a one trick pony with how almost all of his comics are stories about superheroes with trauma, and people felt his stories were very repetitive). People also hated how he wrote Booster Gold and they people felt he was also character assassinated, or at least that King doesn’t understand his character at all(which I actually do agree with he did very poorly write Gold, and it just felt like a very surface level reading of his character that doesn’t actually explore his trauma well at all). Overall I personally love most of King’s works my favs being Swamp Thing winter Special, Omega Men the end is here, and Mister Miracle. I just think people don’t like his works/think he’s a bad writer because his most well known works are his Batman run and Heroes in Crisis, and both are famously hated. And in my opinion King works best in limited/short series, not runs which are intended to go for 100 issues.

@@xochipilli9435 , we'll have to agree to disagree. I roundly enjoyed his Batman run. I find the idea of Bats being Bruce's suicide alternative fascinating. I also find his Booster Gold rendition interesting. To me, his version is a continuation of the Giffen/DeMatteis version. He's a selfish, spoiled lout who consistently does or says things in short-sighted ways, suffers the consequences of such, learns a valuable lesson or two, rectifies his shitty behavior, & has a somewhat happy ending...only to repeat the cycle. That's his character. We're talking about a man who stole time travel tech to seek fame, admiration, & glory. This is quite literally his origin. He certainly possesses a slew of asshole qualities, selfishness, to me, being the most pronounced of the lot, but he is, down deep, a mostly decent fellow who usually strives to do the right thing. Still, he screws up, as he does under King, as one can't expect most people to completely escape the basest aspects of their natures. There are bound to be slip-ups, particularly when it comes to extreme personalities. King's Booster illustrates this well. I enjoyed Heroes In Crisis. I read it as an ElseWorlds story, though I am perfectly aware it's set in baseline DC continuity. While I can understand why some view his Flash take as harsh, I was, during my reading, able to understand how Flash reached the desperate point he ends up twisted in. As for King's style, him being referred to as a one trick pony has confused me for years, as most artists could be described in this way, given that most artists have signature approaches/tics/go-to tactics. King is no different. The difference between him & many other artists? His tic happens to be the exploration of how characters experience & process trauma. I like his approach. I enjoy his minis more than I enjoy his longer efforts, but I do enjoy his longer efforts as well. Lavender Jack...Swooping On Down.

As the saying goes, “One bad apple spoils the bunch” and just so does indifference often brew indifference in others. Why bother caring if your peers don’t care? But it’s caring despite the commonplace indifference that leads to others caring; a cure to the poison of indifference brought about by people treading the harder path to make it the path of least resistance.
