Yet another reason TSB is way ahead of all other Leeds podcasts. There is depth and true understanding in what they do.

Brilliant. I remember Clough at Leeds, just, as a young boy. The Clough/Revie interview was TV gold

Good job TSB and Chris. The film version of the interview was great and as for the original interview itself there are so many uncomfortable moments that you almost feel like you want to turn it off but it's so fascinating that you just have to keep on watching. In the film version they made it appear as though Clough was sat down preparing for a one-to-one interview with Austin Mitchell when Revie showed up just seconds before the interview started. The impression is given that Clough had no idea Revie would even be there. Artistic license for dramatic effect or true? I'll have to go and watch the documentary to find out.

Another dimension as to why Revie was concerned about Clough not meeting everyone at the club to introduce himself is that Revie made the club a family from top to bottom and there is almost an element of the old man leaving his family for a new life but still having a sense of responsibility, genuine care and probably regret at leaving and wanting/hoping his old family were going to be properly (as he saw it) looked after. He was genuinely concerned about the legacy of his family club continuing, especially when a wide boy maverick was appointed as the new head of the family.

That “wide boy” had won the league two years previous then did agai. Both with small clubs at the time. I’m a big Revie fan but if it’s true he didn’t shake Coughs hand and blanked him when they first met then that is disrespectful so I can understand where the clash came from

If Clough had taken Peter Taylor with him to keep his arrogance in check, Leeds would be still a top 6 side today.

This interview with Revie and Clough was like what they have in boxing before the match now called Close Up between the two boxers. Revie absolutely schooled the little boy that Clough was, that’s why Revie was called THE DON 🤙🏾

What is it with the younger fans calling Don Revie Don Reavey? Did the Leeds manager not know how to pronounce his own name and needs correcting?

The Damned United book was far better than the knockabout Britflick romp the film turned out to be. David Peace is a great writer. The Red Riding Quartet (about the Yorkshire Ripper) is fantastic crime fiction. Great interview lads.

The TV version of Red Riding was terrible - just one actor with a Yorkshire accent, Sean Bean and he was from Sheffield.

I don't think the interview became big *after* The Damned United - it may be the case for these lads because of their age but just about anyone else who is a bit older (Leeds fan or not) that had even a cursory interest in football would remember this as a biggie. - "This younger generation they think they know it all" - Righto grandad, shurrup ;-)

The interpretation of that interview has been hugely shaped by their respective career paths afterwards. Had Clough been a bog standard manager thereafter Revie would have been seen as the winner and Clough merely a chancer. That’s not how it panned out….

2019 was our centenary year, it’s now 50 years that we’ve been basically crap in success terms. Our arrogance is certainly history - proof isn’t it? Sadly for me I watched both interviews live. (The ferret and the other ferret!) Austin Mitchell before his political endeavours too.

For me Clough seems so intimidated by Revie who is much more self assured. Clough tries to seem self assured and confident but he is over compensating for the fact that insdye he is riddled with self doubt. This is how ive always seen Clough.
