I'm torn. I just bought one, and I will say that was the one disappointment in the showroom. What's worse is that the trunk lid doesn't feel or function like a premium vehicle -- it only pops open slightly, then you have to lift it, and it feels light, thin, and springy on the opening action. I would have liked to see a motorized lift back, but if not that, at least motorized boot lid....and if not THAT, at least a gas strut and hefty feeling lid! Nonetheless, it's slick AF, and I'm excited to take delivery

I own the Crown platinum. Have you compared the Crown to the $70k Lexus 500h. The engine, Trans and adaptive suspension appear identical. Therefore the Crown is cheaper to the Lexus 500h and that was what I was comparing the Crown to.

Since you mention the Venza, it feels like that & the Crown are Toyota's "near luxury" offerings. Perhaps they saw a gap between Lexus & Toyota they wanted filled in.

Matt, Excellent review on the Toyota Crown, You covered it pretty well. I am one of the weirdos that is happy Toyota made this and I enjoyed the review. I guess I am happy to see a new sedan, even if it is not the most beautiful, it is certainly different. I agree the Hybrid Max is priced wrong, price is high, but the XLE and Limited are the way to go, especially the Limited trim, truthfully the XLE and Limited will be more reliable not having a turbo engine. Most older people will be buying this, so that 2.5 four cylinder will be fine. You made a good point in the video, for a vehicle over fifty grand it should have a power open and close trunk, also this is now Toyota's luxury car in their line up, so it should have little things like that. I also appreciate that you explained that the All Wheel Drive is not mechanically connected, personally I wish it was mechanically connected, because it would respond better in my opinion. I know the Toyota software does a pretty good job communicating to the rear motor of when to give power and when not give power, but if it was mechanical would be smoother no hesitations. I understand with it being a hybrid Toyota no longer uses a mechanical connection for all wheel drive. Thanks for also talking about cabin interior noise levels and the stereo. It will be interesting to see how these sell. Toyota knows their customers pretty well, these might sell better than we think. I saw the limited at the dealership in all black, it really looked different, not bad, not beautiful, but unique.

The crown is just awful. More like a clown sedan at best It’s ugly, mediocre interior, missing some features, poor headroom and trunk, and the performance is embarrassing for the fact that it’s overpriced Another compelling choice that’s significantly cheaper than this is the camry. In context, a Camry v6 has the same performance as the crown max. And more headroom and a bigger trunk and a few more features like a heads up display and a proper pano roof. And the mpg isn’t really that far off either. Oh and it’s $15K less
@MattMaranMotoring
Жыл бұрын
Camry V6 has no AWD, way less power, and old tech, plus it hasn’t changed in 5 years. For people that don’t care about those things, I agree the Camry for 15k less is probably the better choice, assuming you can find one with the V6. Most dealers don’t stock them anymore because hardly anyone buys the V6.
