This is by far, the best review I have seen on Bois de Iles. Fantastic presentation and break down of the fragrance. Now, I understand the notes as I wear this masterpiece from the house of Chanel. Thank you so much. William

first class review freddie. one of the many reasons i love watching your vids is that you have this amazing (along with a few other select reviewers) ability to add a little something new to a fragrance which i thought i already knew about. i really enjoyed watching this. you are indeed a gentleman and a scholar :-)

The idea of emphasizing different facets of one particular ingredient by other components is so intriguing! This review really makes want to sniff Bois des Iles and Nahema. :D

I think once you get into their style and into their back catalogue you really begin to see how they earned their reputation for superior quality and exquisite artistry. Very few (if any) other houses can match them for elegance and sophistication.

Superb review and, bonus, the best male voice on KZitem. ;-) I have this in the old rendition, the new honker and a mini - the latter being the best, with ethereal, crystal tinkling aldehydes. The other two are quite different. Definitely a coconut aspect, as well as a honey-ish and dough-like quality. Further, a higher note, probably bergamot maybe a floral. All may be facets of sandalwood, but far off from Santal Noble or even Arpege. BdI: perpetually intrigued but not really convinced.

Lovely review! I have a sample of this that I have yet to try, so I'll have to give it a whirl. I'm curious to know what your thoughts are on Coromandel?

Long ago, after watching your video on Arabian Oud's Mukhallat al Shiyoukh, I liked the way you described it (remember the roses of Medjugorje reference) enough to blind buy a bottle off Ebay. I was hoping to watch it again after all these years, but see that it's been taken down along with most of your other uploads. Thanks for your efforts back when KZitem FragComm was great.

I am very fortunate to have a 200 ml bottle of this that was given to me by a good friend, I got this last year when I was 17 and adored it so much that I've already used about 1/4 of it and I'm trying to save it until I can afford to replace it, which will probably take years. It's truly beautiful, delicate but confident.

An in-depth review as always. I just came back from a Chanel boutique that hosts a complete range of the Les Exclusifs line. I smelled most of them on paper(and on this fancy porcelain stick used for sniffing) and decided to test Bois des Iles on my skin. I liked the opening. However, on my skin, it dries down to a quite powdery scent that reminds me of the iris in Dior Homme. I'm not sure if this one will work for me.

I love this fragrance and yearn for it for the next winter! However, I don't find it disimilar to "Egoiste" (original) which is sharper, more masculine, more woody and darker. And then there is good old Trumper's "Sandalwood"....... Due to budgetary restrictions, I opted for Egoiste which was £62 (100ml) over the £200 for "Bois des Isles" that admittedly is a Rolls Royce of a fragrance.

really enjoy your reviews. I seem to have a similar preference in terms of fragrances to you esp. in the case of the Orientals you like. can I ask why you went for the EDT and not the Parfum strength with this one? also ive noticed you always buy the smallest bottle size even when its one of your favourites, why is this?

It's different, Samsara has a big Javanol derived synthetic note which I personally enjoy, and is a big heavy oriental which I also enjoy. BdI is completely different, it's lighter and very classically Chanel in style and contains no specific Sandalwood synthetic (I don't think). Normally the Les Exclusifs are only available in Chanel boutiques as far as I know. :)

I have to admit I bought this fragrance unsniffed in a moment of, I don't even know what. And I love it. It's so different from anything else I have. I find the wear to be fairly long, although its projection isn't very far. Thoroughly enjoyed the review!

That'll be the aldehydes, they can be very pronounced on some people. There is a small amount of Orris/Iris in that composition, but not so much that it would out compete the aldehydes on the powdery front. Give a little time, see what happens.

Oooooh goodness so you like em powerful! But most of those aren't harsh so much as strong. No.19 is sort of out of character with the rest. Have you tried Lancome's La Vie est Belle yet? Also Manifesto by YSL, they both similar in character to Flowerbomb, but different too. You should try L'Instant de Guerlain (the women's one) you might like it too. You may also like Chanel Allure Sensuelle...
@FumerieHilaire

It sounds like you enjoy those very raspy and harsh Chypre fragrances. Nothing is really very similar to No.19, but you might also like Vol de Nuit by Guerlain and possibly Givenchy III, also Odalisque by Parfums de Nicolai is very good, you might also like Jardins de Bagatelle by Guerlain, I've never tried it but some people say Kiton Black is in the general area of what you're describing. Also Orange Star by Tauer might appeal....?

Oh Raj, seriously, I am lusting after that fragrance so damn hard right now it's is not even funny. I haven't smelt it yet, their site doesn't work for me and we don't have any stockists here in Ireland so I have to wait till I go to London at the end of the month for a sniff. From what I know it definitely is real Mysore Sandal, and done in a Lactonic and slightly gourmand type of way, which sounds really interesting. Very much looking forward to finally testing it.

I would definitely recommended Egoiste to anyone looking for a similar dry down to BdI but who wants ti spend less. I agree it's more woody and spicey. I don't own Egoiste myself because I find the top notes jarring. But it's excellent stuff nonetheless.

Thank you so much! I LOVE vintage Arpege! :D But it seems to have undergone several rather drastic reformulations over the decades and I don't think the modern version is up to much sadly :( I very much enjoy the drydown of Santal Noble, and I know technically there's connection between Coffee and Sandalwood but somehow it makes Santal Noble less...easy on the nose (for me). Also it smells more like New Caledonian Sandal to me but it's excellent fragrance which I know many people would adore.

This perfume is so pretty, well mannered and easy to wear! I have heard egoist is the male version of this fragrance. I need to seek it out. Otherwise if I had all the money in the world I would get the parfum! I am still hoarding my sample of the toilette. By the way you have quite a library collection. I don't know why but I can only make out titles having to do with sexuality: porno, hood, middle sex. Lol
