Great review. Beautiful machine. The build quality and sound is absolutely gorgeous. Top notch work coming from Australia ^^ BUT this is going for 3000 € @ Thomann !!! Thats so insane ...you could get 2 proper Roland RE 201 and get into stereo if you wish. And the special extra hefty and gritty self oscillating resonant Roland RE 201 sound is something I didnt hear here very pronounced. Which makes the Roland sound unique for me and is a key feature.

You can find 201's for €1.500 but considering most for 2-3K I doubt you will get two good ones for 3K. Next you have the constant trouble of maintaining not one, but two pieces of 70's mechanical junk. As much as I love the unit, I think I will pass on that idea 😄

That thing sounds beautiful and so did your outro. Exquisite. I want this thing. Capistan, Volante, RE-202 all do great tape echo emulations but kind of halfass it in terms of stereo features, which is why I’ve sold them all. 1 output per play head is killer. @@bojangprodoktschns5428 the playheads are fixed so your delay time is effectively only influenced by the speed of the tape. Your tempo and division give you an amount of ms of delay. Call me a hater, but these modern retro-inspired units just sound so polite and even though they look nice and have all these bells and whistles there's a certain lofi character that is missing, inherent from vintage equipment. Whether it be old electrolytic caps, motor malfunction, medium/high signal to noise ratio due to the design or dirty tape heads, etc in my opinion this is why we love these old little machines, they're not perfect and they are not meant to be glossy as of 2024. Back in the 70's when huge companies made them (most of the time) aiming for the highest quality, compared to this day standards, their dream would be a digital delay of course. But, this is exactly the mistake that new "vintage inspired" products have. They're not your old dusty acetone or roland echo, they almost sound too digital sometimes and ironically they use tape and bbd's
