Don't damage the knife because it doesn't throw sparks If you absolutely need to throw sparks with a rod and there are schools of thought that disagree with rod use for reasons of safety when you get down to its core and the rod starts chipping and shaving off, just buy a ferro rod with a small scraping knick attached to it Otherwise learn the stone and stick method

The lack of safety boundary, guard or ricasso is what I like! Never ever you slice your hand or finger. But I am a scandi. I agree the spine on the blade is much to smooth. Needs to be sharp to scrape tinder as well. Not only for firesteels.

The possibility is there if the handle gets wet. The safety boundary also provides an extra pressure point for the index finger for making notches for a fireboard. At that moment, you have your knife almost vertical and put downward pressure. It doesn't matter how experienced you are with your knife. Accidents can always happen :-)

What are the features do you think an outdoors / bushcraft knife should have?
