Ahhh I bought this book on Book Outlet and I haven't read Colleen Hoover before and I don't know how I can deal with slut-shaming and degrading slang. That just frustrates me in books so I don't know if I will pick it up or not.... I'll probably at least try.

i'm loving the new camera quality, whitney! also i thought this review was great. i haven't read any colleen hoover, but based on your thoughts, i don't know if i'd like this one. i really don't tolerate slut-shaming (in books or irl) so that would definitely bug me, and i'm all about taking action/going to be police for serious issues. maybe i'll start with another one of her books... or read easy by tammara weber since you liked that one!

I know quite a few people had problems with this book, but I absolutely loved it. Probably my favorite of her books, but I know a lot of people love maybe someday more so I would recommend reading that one as your next colleen hoover book.

I did not cry while reading this book but I was shocked because I did not see that plot twist at all and I read a lot about that subject. I don't like name calling either but all in all I did enjoy that book. It's considered new adult which is for mature audiences. I did give it 5 stars because that plot twist really threw me

It isn't everyone's cup of tea. Many of us have got to know Colleen over the years so we integrate her actual personality into her writing. She is the kind of person who has insulting banter back and forth with her real life best friends so its easy for those of us who follow her on social media to over look said parts. Slut shaming, I agree is disgusting, however it happens. I think the overall point she is making with this book is that things are never as they seem, people are cruel and they will say what they want about others and what we need to do is embrace what we know to be true about ourselves despite what others say or think. I love Colleen Hoovers books. I do believe I am stuck on a band wagon though. With every book that has come out I like them a little less, but I love her and I love her personality so I see where it goes into her books. Your review was delightful. I love when people have differing opinions on books and they aren't afraid to express them no matter how popular the author may be.

I agree with all these thoughts! I have loved all her other books but thought she tried to do too much with this book. Too many things happened and I agree that they were handled badly - I think the intense topics were down played to what they'd be in reality!

Great video. I really didn't enjoy Hopeless. I liked Slammed by her a lot, but I thought Hopeless was just way too over dramatic, and she just relies on the dude to fix all her problems. I kind of wanted to die reading it, because it drove me crazy. And I just spent most of the time laughing at it and rolling my eyes. It seemed like a terrible lifetime movie, honestly.

Kayla M. I should add that obviously what was happening was horrible and the protagonist had a right to be upset or "dramatic". But I thought it was unrealistic in that it was just one bad thing happening after another, and it felt like Hoover was just putting them all in to gain sympathy for Sky and because of that the book was too dramatic and ridiculous for me. Also her relationship with what's his face was way too dramatic, and kind of stupid.

I was really disappointed when I read this book. I was expecting to love it and everything was just ok to me. The characters weren't really different from the average new adult characters, the writing wasn't great and I guessed the ending halfway through. I did read it quickly though so it wasn't terrible it's just really over-hyped.

I agree with all of the things you said about this book! I liked Hopeless but there was always something about it that bothered me. I couldn't put my finger on it until now, and I read this a year ago! I highly recommend The Slammed trilogy by Colleen Hoover! In my opinion it has the good aspects of Hopeless/Colleen Hoover's writing and applies them to a better story. I was more attached to the characters in Slammed, and I feel like the story was emotional in a way that Hopeless failed to be. Great discussion, Whitney!

I haven't read Hopeless yet and still plan to but I have to say I really appreciate your thoughts about this book. I think that as a known BookTuber you have an influence on young readers so to hear you both enjoy and dissect a book, I think is a really good influence. This video is the kind of review I love to see. I enjoy how you analyzed the book based on its social effect. I am impressed and I've been meaning to tell you that for the past handful of your videos. I love where your focus is and I like thinking that the youth that looks up to you will attempt to dissect books similarly after seeing this video. :)

Yeah, I wasn't very into this book. When it came to the writing style, I didn't feel like it was anything special, but it did have an almost addictive quality that kept me reading. I loved the point that you made about the affectionate insults the characters used! Sometimes I couldn't pinpoint what was bothering me, but that was definitely some of it. -Morgan

I read Ugly Love and Maybe Someday by her before I got into this book Hopeless. I thoroughly enjoyed the first two and I read them back to back. So when I jumped right into the book Hopeless directly after reading 2 other books by her, my expectations were high. Currently I think I am 150 pages in and it is VERY difficult to pull myself through the rest of the book - it's hard to believe there is a second book in this dualogy called Losing Hope from the guys perspective. Her writing in this novel compared to her others are drastically different. Overall I am a bit disappointed because she normally catches my attention. I agree with the slut shaming and crude humor - I have the same mentality as you, so I didn't care much for it nor think it was necessary. I did like the progression of love in the book but it definitely was cliche. I'm going to try and power through the rest. Wish me luck!

I agree with you, I didnt like this book either. For pretty much the same reasons, I just didnt connect with her and the story. Though I have to say, that I liked her best friend (dont really remember the name). Not the girl one, the guy she meets at school.

This was such a great review! I'd like to read some Colleen Hoover but to be honest her books sound kinda cliche and based mostly on this review I don't believe I'd be impressed by the writing -- which is okay, not all books have amazing writing of course. But I just hear so many fantastic things about her books and I can't help but be curious! Though if there's something that bugs me is slut-shaming and the kind of slang you described. I might pick up Confess soon because that one sounds interesting as heck actually!

SERIOUSLY AND THE REASON FOR THE SEX WAS JUST ALL WRONG. AND ON TOP OF ALL OF THIS, I DID NOTE THAT HOLDER WAS DEMANDING, and instead of being aware of his weird behavior, Sky excused it because he was good looking? Ugh.
