I don't know who you've been talking to, but as an openSUSE contributor, I can assure you, Tumbleweed isn't going anywhere. Leap is the only distribution on the chopping block.

Yes, Leap is about to be discontinued and it is most likely going to be replaced by SlowRoll. Tumbleweed, it seems, is the distro used for testing to ensure the stability of SUSE Linux Enterprise systems.

Tumbleweed isn't going anywhere. Opensuse has been clear on that. Slowroll is potentially a replacement for leap, not Tumbleweed

Since there is conflicting information on this, I contacted the openSUSE press team and asked for information.

Hi FJS, IMHO you did a strong review. I switch to tumbleweed on my main machine some month ago. I had been using Arch for long time switching after to gentoo. Actually I found it more stable than I thought it would be, yast is IMHO the the best graphical installer out there, I have a couple of disk to partition for the OS and I have done it in a blink. What I like the less is that standard installation is bit bloated but a really easy overcoming problem.

I too experimented with OpenSUSE back in the early noughties and I specifically chose OpenSUSE because it supported both Gnome and KDE at the time. Once I ditch Windows 10 I hope slowroll is the norm, and I'll happily switch back to OpenSUSE again.

Another niece thing it has is opensuse OBS/Opi. It even stores the repo that you install software using Opi for future updating of whatever you installed.

I recently found out SUSE management has extreme political views and why I don't recommend it anymore. Personally I use Gentoo and don't like quote on quote easy distros because it is better to know your system. Unfortunately not everyone has time for that kind of system (both to learn it to take use of its features and to buiild packages on their older budget PC) hence Oh Susie looked like a good recommendation that just works. Well oh well, at lest in Linux world there is decent choice regarding distros.

Sounds like Mint has gone down the same road with political opinions. Uhg!

So basically you don't like openSUSE because it's creators have political views that you don't agreed with. Sorry, but this makes no sense for me. The distro works. Who cares about the political views of the creators?

@@matyasmarkkovacs8336 The political views don’t matter. It’s when they air them out to the users, that is a problem. Woke is woke and Linux is being overrun and infested with this mind virus.

Whatever their views are, they don't seem to go out of their way to advertise them. I, for one, haven't ever heard if this alleged extremism.

Someone please tell me, does Opensuse really not allow USB Tethering? I tried installing it but it doesn't work/connect directly like other Linux desktop environments. How to handle it? I've opened the OpenSuse forum but couldn't find the right way. And in my opinion the documentation is lacking

None of my computers can get past secure boot security violations, whether the initial iso or subsequent boots. When Dell and Lenovo don't work, they have problems.

What problem are you experiencing? Try activating virtualization in your laptop's BIOS. On some laptops it is required

I installed Tumbleweed KDE a week ago on my Dell Optiplex 5050 with Secure Boot enabled and it installed just fine.
