Yes....when we traded it in, the service tech at the dealership said it was a common issue with that trailer. They were going to add a couple of small computer style fans to help circulate the heat in the back out of the trailer.. He said that would solve the issue.

It sounds as if you get approximately 2 years per trailer. Is this because they wear out, or are you trading as the warranties come to an end? Just curious because we are looking to start trailering in near future.
@TravelswithDelaney

Sometimes its been because our camping styles change and sometimes its been because of issues with the trailer. For instance, we traded the Hummingbird in because the refrigerator never worked correctly on propane and Jayco refused to fix it under warranty. We go frustrated with it and traded it on the T@B 400. We loved the 400 for 2 years but then decided we just needed more room in the trailer with the 2 dogs.

Good review! We just purchased a Coachman Clipper Cadet 16fb and like you we got it for the ease of tow. Its’ 2440 dry weight with only minimum added inside (I actually weighed each item we put inside) 350 lbs its very easy to get around. We bought late in the season so we only had two trips with it up to Maine before we came home and had to get ready for winter, but we enjoyed it immensely. If I had to think of one drawback it was the mattress. After the first trip we had it with the mattress so after much research we purchased a Tuft and Needle mattress that fit the spot perfectly and improved our nights sleep tremendously. It’s 10” and when you lift the bed to get into storage the gas cartridge still holds it up well @ 60 lbs. Being a small trailer leaves some lack of space issues but we knew what we were getting. Unfortunately the build quality leaves some desires but once again it was a great tow. I had to rebuild the bench seat near the door because it almost came apart during the first trip. It did though give me the idea to put a pull out drawer there so we didnt have to lift the cushions and the board to have access to the items inside. We can’t wait till spring now to get back on the road. Ive even thought that maybe some time in January after the holidays that we may just hook up and head to somewhere warmer for a month or so. Thanks for your invite on your trailer we look forward to more of your videos.

We viewed the Hummingbird RK Baja edition just recently, and it seemed ideal until I tripped twice on the table legs. Those legs stick out just enough to be a hazard. The only other item we felt was the actual deal breaker was the short queen bed. My 6'3" husband felt the shorter mattress was uncomfortable. Our original thought was that this trailer was tall enough that he didn't have to bend his head in walking around inside and the shower was tall enough that he could use it. Other than those two items, this would have been an ideal trailer. Now we're looking around again. Darn.

Enzo T I don’t know what they are rated for but I’d be a little nervous with winds over 40mph. I’d try to be parked so the wind is blowing from the front to the back or vice versa. I always thing it would we Harder to flip over a trailer that way versus on its side. Make sure all 4 stabilizers are down-as well to reduce swaying. If it gets that windy, we typically get in the 4Runner and drive to a location that we can take cover if necessary such as a bathhouse or store. I hope that helps. I’m doing a video on severe weather for late next week. Be safe out there and keep us posted.

We have a Jayco Hummingbird 2017 17FD. We have had an on-going problem with the fridge pilot not lighting and the dining table breaking when used for a sleeper. The supports for the dining table sleeper were mounted with wood screws into furring strips against the paper thin finish wall. Overall, the materials, in order to keep it light, are not satisfactory. The LED lights were changed under the recall. You made a good choice in buying the Jack-It bike rack in after-market, I forget what we paid as an option. We tow it with a 2005 Honda Pilot, which has a gross travel/utility trailer tow capacity of 3500, but will tow a boat and trailer up to 4500. Overall, it's a okay, but service for Jayco (like many brands) is hit-and-miss. I am not impressed that Thor has bought Jayco and that this model came out only after the merger. I believe this was pretty much a flashy copy of R-Pods Winnie-Drops, but with the usual shortcuts Thor is famous for. Thanks for the share. Steve and Susan Gordo Marina, California

I'm looking for our first RV. You mentioned it's easy to tow. Can you describe what hard to tow is like? I have a Tacoma too, but mine can tow up to 6,400. Haven't decided what weight of trailer to buy yet. Thanks.

RedBengal Our prior trailer was a Gulfstream Vintage Cruiser that was 23’ and weighed about 4000# loaded. It was much more square and less aerodynamic so it felt like I was dragging a box down the road. Most of the time it felt like the tail waggin the dog. Even with a sway bar, it had a squirrelly feel. The 4Runner technically had enough power and breaking but it felt like much more of a struggle than what we have with this trailer. I hope this helps. Honestly, with this trailer, most of the time I forget it’s even behind us. And I love that it’s only 6 1/2 feet wide so I can easily see behind us with our side mirrors.

Thank you so much for giving a review of your Hummingbird. I am considering the 17BH model, so I can camp with two young grandsons. I thought I was going to get an R Pod, but because of all the negative reviews on Forest River products I believe the Jayco model will be the one I will choose. I sure appreciate all the info.

That would be pushing the limits of your Lexus. You might check with the Lexus dealer to see what they think. I personally would want something closer to a 5000# towing capacity for a trailer this size.

+Shirley Scott We traded the Vintage Cruiser because it leaked like a colander. We traded the Jayco because the refrigerator never worked correctly and Jayco refused to honor the warranty. We have had a T@B 400 by NuCamp for almost a year and a half now and absolutely love it. Excellent quality and customer service 2nd to none.

@TravelswithDelaney

Broken Fang we haven't had any issues with the AC unit. The trailer is so small that it cools down the trailer very quickly. It is more noise than a ducted unit but that is true regardless of the manufacturer. It has low/hi fan setting and lo/hi cool setting. When in cool mode, the fan runs continuously while the compressor cycles on and off. The thermostat is just a dial you adjust but no actual temp settings. Hope that helps

Nice work with the honest review and calling it like you see it without any meanness. Your replies are also direct and straight--really appreciate. Regarding one of your replies, pulling at 80% of our GVWR really seems likes a good idea for all sorts of reasons including that we have to be able to stop what we pull...With the new frig, I think we are going for a Jayco Baja edition. Thanks again.

Northstar7 Thank you very much! I’ve really tried to give a fair and honest review in our trailer videos. I actually spoke to a service manager at a different dealership that believes the issue wasn’t the refrigerator but the way it was installed. He was saying that the cavity size that the refrigerator goes into and the venting is crucial to get the necessary air flow. It does make sense that ours was overheating because the hot air wasn’t being forced out. He said it can happen even with a Dometic but they will authorize installing venting fans to force the hot air out. I hope you enjoy your new trailer and have many happy adventures in it!

I ordered it on Amazon. To make sure it didn't blow off, I had a bungee cord attached on both sides going under the metal tray that the tank sets on. Never had an issue with it.

I too am interested in the solution to the refrigerator problem. I have a 2017 17RK with that very issue. My thought was the added heat from the propane flame is too much to vent so I'm adding an exhaust fan. if it's an installation issue I want to have the correction made.

Alejandro De La Fuente The only thing we had to do was hook up our brake controller which was easy since the 4Runner was already prewired. I just had to find the plug that was tucked in the plastic side panel near the brake panel. Otherwise, the 4Runner has been a perfect tow vehicle for us.

I'm in the market for a trailer, so thanks for this video. I've whittled my choice down to this model or an Rpod. So, if you have time, can you expound on the pre-purchase comparisons you made between this Jayco and the Rpod? And what factors led you away from the Rpod? Also, after reading your past comments, is the warranty issue the ONLY reason you would not buy Jayco again? This leads me to think that design, structure, technology, amenities (save for the refrig issue), etc., are pretty much of high standard vs the Rpod. It's only a document issue that's faulty. True? False?
@TravelswithDelaney
7 жыл бұрын
Phil Hankins I still believe that the build quality of the Jayco is better than the RPod overall. My frustration has been with Jayco’s warranty policy and the fact they won’t stand behind the refrigerator. I’ve talked to some other local Jayco owners that have also had issues getting Jayco to cover defects under warranty. Overall we have loved the trailer and the layout. It appears based upon other viewers comments that Jayco is putting Dometic refrigerators in the 2018 Hummingbirds which might be an indication that they know Norcold has an issue with the small 2way refrigerator. I have ordered the supposed fix part but the dealership can’t install in until after Christmas. I’ll be doing a video on it once it’s installed. I’m just disappointed that the 2 year warranty wasn’t what I had expected which was a major reason we chose Jayco over the RPod. I hope that helps. Let me know if you have more questions I can answer.
@PintoSixty
7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the reply. May I ask for specific details on why you thing the Jayco is overall better than the RPod? Quality of construction and attention to detail are the highest on my list. Should I re-prioritize the warrany issue? Do things break down often in the Jayco? Or both?!
@TravelswithDelaney
7 жыл бұрын
Phil Hankins we looked at several RPods during our search along with the Winnie Drop and the Hummingbird. One thing we noticed was the attention to detail seemed better in the Hummingbird. The finishes looked better in the Hummingbird and the construction seemed more solid. I pushed on an interior wall in an RPod and it bowed in. Our interior walls in the Hummingbird are solid and don’t bow. I have seen comments in the Hummingbird Facebook group of some owners having issues with trim coming off inside while traveling but we haven’t had any issues like that.

My Jayco service person told me those lights in your Jayco are causing fires and need replacement. Go to your dealer and check if your model is affected. Yours look identical to mine (and ours are way too bright at night too) and ours all need replacing. Do NOT leave them on for an extended period of time. The trailer could catch on fire!
