@@androidgameplays4every13 Guy, for the common consumer, it's a great choice. The next step up would be the 115, but that's a tool for more specialized work. You don't need true RMS to see if an outlet is working, and I trust Fluke and Agilent more than your $10 Walmart Special. To anybody else that sees this, the Fluke 107 is accurate to fit your common everyday needs. If you are looking for a more specialized tool, the Fluke 115 is necessary due to its true RMS and cal cert option.

Near the end of the video you are asking for a compareable meter. You may have a look on the Voltcraft VC175. It has a similar form factor of 75 x 150 x 38 mm (ok, a little bigger and "only" 4000digits) but with some more featuers on the other side (yA and mA AC/DC, LED light included, non contact voltage test, auto range and range select) that make it a very good competitor to the Fluke 107 and - most important - really good and compareable input protection to the Fluke 107. I use it as my always with me DMM in my standard tool-kit case but it's good for standard bench when you do not need 0,05% accuracy and 4000 digits are enough. It's only about 40 EUR in Europe at Conrad Electronics (Voltcraft is a trademark of Conrad). A direct comparison of these two DMMs would be nice and helpful for others I think.

Hi, could you please tell me the values of the R35, R38 and Q2 i need them because i have a fluke 106 and im trying to convert to a 107, until now i managed to enable the Hz meter but i cant seem to enable the diode test and i suspect these missing components on the 106 board might have something to do with it. Thanks in advance!

Fluke 107's a great little meter but mine died in 3 years because the original batteries (Panasonic alkaline AAAs) leaked and corroded the contacts, incl the gold plated contacts on the PCB, and damaged other components. Also, the [replacement] fuse is rather expensive and tough to get here in India.

I bought one yesterday, took it back, exchanged for another, opened while in the store, with same issue. Out the box will not stay at zero with no leads plugged in or anything being tested. None of my other multimeters jump around like these two. They had a pile of them in the store, so I am assuming other stores sent theirs's to the store I was at. I do not see a pot to tune or cal it. The ideal one I got after the second exchange reads off on the power supply. All kind of problems. smh

Hi, nice review and comparisons, but you did not showed us the continuity tester, the autoranging speed in ohms scale when shorting the probes, diode mode (does it beep when shorted?), power-up settings(does it have any?)... Hmmm so I guess I need to look for the manual...

This meter is very tempting. But millivolt range at least is a missed opportunity. I have the 87-5 and I love it, but I am in the market for something smaller for travel.

Nice rational engineering it seems. No wires, simple to assemble. One interesting thing that you could maybe make a video or regular segment out of is some thoughts about the manufacture cost. Make a rough list of the components on the PCB and keep in mind that bulk prices are about half of the cheapest on digikey. Looking at that PCB I think the result will shock you and be most enlightening. Maybe even world changing. I'd guess the only thing that costs anything is the display and maybe a dollar for the hidden chip. Likely less. The cost difference between a low end Fluke and an expensive one will probably also shock you. Of course that's heresy territory. Few dare venture :)

I'm sure I've said this before, but if you can engineer, market, and support Fluke quality meters at a lower price, please, go ahead and do it. Show us all how easy it is.
@DanFrederiksen

Monkeh616 And you were also wrong when you said it then. I'm sure Fluke 87 is a decent meter. It has aesthetically pleasing accuracy, if you measure 5V it tends to fall on 5.000v which is elegant. But it's just a simple fact that it's not expensive nor difficult to do that nor do they use exotic displays. It's 1970 display tech. There is no research or development here. It's all trivial. If you want to do well you can do a calibration map across a wide temperature range. Ironically the case is probably the most expensive part of it but not because it's difficult to make or that it's particularly high quality. I prefer the look and build of my UT61E over a Fluke. UT's only weakness is that they don't seem to bother with factory calibration which is a shame. Otherwise it would eclipse the 87V and incomparably so when considering the factor 6 price difference. Fluke is cultural religion. Same as Coca Cola. All image and decent quality. Nothing special. And they grow wealthy from the devotion of their mindless followers. Let Fluke engineers speak up if what I say isn't true. By all means let us hear the true unit cost of an 87V. I'd guess 6$ total BOM. Another foolishness in meters is their size. UT plays into that as well. The 61E is quite beefy which gives it a certain presence but if the design was rational it would be dramatically smaller. As you can see on the inside there is nothing to it. It could be thin as an ipad and as small as you would want it to be. Yet another foolishness is that they don't add scope function as well as advanced LCR. It's trivial and costless to measure inductance including saturation point and graph it. It should of course be in a multimeter. It's just legacy 'thinking' or lack of same.
