Note that the newer versions of these since late 2022 don't use the official ATMel chips but rather a chinese clone chip. This can be noted by sanded off markings or re-lasered markings on the chip. Also the banner shows chinese letters. This means these cannot be upgraded with the official software from the original open source that designed these and there may be inconsistencies in the readings as compared with real hardware.

Yes these days you're very unlikely to get a genuine ATMel version of this tester. This clones have counterfeit chips, no crystal and a dodgy circuit that can damage zener diodes. The firmware as you say is not upgradeabl, has a cut down list of features (for example wont decode many types of IR) and can be very inaccurate. There is a big thread on EEVBlog about this. The only easy way to tell if you have a clone is by opening it up.

Be sure when testing caps that they are not charged. I accidentally burned device when I forgot to do that. So sot23-6 esd diode packet and cpu burned (Looks like it's not AVR). Main TVS diode was fine. I also plan to fix this by using arduino nano. Tested that display was ok but need custom driver. It seems display area has offset. I think I also try to do relay protection what was described in original design documents.

Mosfet rDS is CRAP for the IRF3205, I assume because of high gate (fully) on voltage.
