Finally, DG has boxed up Claudio Abbado's best (or at least most consistent) series of recordings--the ones he made with the London Symphony Orchestra in the early maturity of his career. These are the performances that led to his later fame, and many of them are indeed superb: great Mendelssohn, Prokofiev, Ravel, Rossini, Bizet, Stravinsky, and a host of others. If you want to hear what made Abaddo such an exciting conductor in the first place, this is where you'll find the most compelling evidence.
