Great review. Recognize all the flaws. I would put these in the "rubbish" category based on excess toebox space, tight midfoot combined with dental floss laces and ridiculous heel slippage. Just watched the vid and wanted to share some of my opinions. Personally, I feel that these boots do deserve the hype, as they bring about a drastic change, from the lackluster predator 18 and 19, getting a power boot like this which isn't really available from other brands is pretty exciting. I was reading some comments and in one of them, you mentioned that no one would be talking about these boots if not for the demonskin. I feel like that's the whole point of the boot and it makes sense that the excitement exists solely for the new demonskin feature, which is a throwback to old predators. However, I do agree that this boot isn't perfect. The midfoot can feel tight, the sizing may differ for some people due to the fit of the boot and the break in time isn't amazing as well. However, I feel that these boots make it up in their durability and the grip they provide. I guess it's a personal preference thing, where it's up to the individual if he/she is willing to trade some features for the bells and whistles this boot brings. I also feel that despite your claims of this boot being overhyped, the boot which really are overhyped are the Nike Mercurials. Although it's a great pair of boots, Nike fooled countless football fans into thinking that the weight of boots matter to the point where they get away with bad durability in their $300 boots and keep pushing out unnecessary colorways to milk money by using Ronaldo as their posterboy. I feel that Adidas have really stepped up their game and they should get the recognition that they deserve despite some flaws, as no boot is perfect. These are just my opinions, I respect you for having the courage to go against the norm and actually talk about the drawbacks of the predator but I personally felt that the video title and some comments you made were a little too harsh. Cheers :) (this was just my respectful opinion, I didn't mean to insult you. Sorry if I gave the wrong impression)
@BootWizard
4 жыл бұрын
Not insulted at all, boots are all about opinions and I'm only one of them, you're totally entitled to your different view point. I was possibly a little harsh about certain aspects of the boot in order to get my point accross, but overall my issue comes down to the fact that for a boot that costs as much as this does the sizing and break in time aspects are unacceptable for me. My issue around the hype isn't nessesarily about the boot, I agree with you that it's a step in the right direction and a nice transition from the 18 and 19 ranges, but there is barely a single other reviewer out there who has addressed the fit and break in time issues, everything that has been said about the boots has been almost universally positive which considering these in my opinon major issues means that the boots are overhyped or at least over praised without a discussion being had about the problems which I felt I really needed to bring to light. I agree that fit and experience is different from person to person but the mid foot is very tight, the toebox is very wide and that is something that needs discussing. But as you say, different experiences, I've also not been that impressed with the durability something you have enjoyed but I don't usually comment on that as there are so many personal factors in play. Although that does lead me onto your point about the Mercurial where unfortunately I have to disagree with you again, as you say, respectfully, but I do feel differently. I think in terms of producing lightweight boots historically it's actually adidas that have produced lightweight boots sometimes at the cost of durability. The Mercurial line currently weighs almost exactly the same as the x19+ and I think in terms of knit technology Nike are so far ahead of everyone else and the Mercurial is the absolute pinnacle and one of the best boots on the market. In colour way terms as well here, Adidass and Nike are as equally guilty of turning out a ridiculous amount of colour ways for their boots in my view, irrespective of the players. Appreciate you checking out the video and commenting, exactly like you said, respect your opinon 100%, a good debate is what boot reviews are all about.
@echoes3111

@@BootWizard thanks for the reply :) appreciate it. Yup, I probably overlooked the durability of some of Adidas boots there, but I was trying to show the current state of market where too many people are obsessed with pure performance that they kind of discourage brands trying to experiment which causes the market leaders (Nike) to focus on improving boots but not trying something drastic which can change the landscape of boots in the future (like laceless boots). Although this boot definitely has its flaws, it's a breath of fresh air (alongside the puma future) in the current boot market as it definitely spices things up and paves the way for future innovation. It was a pretty good first attempt in my opinion, and hopefully Adidas refines it with it's successor. I guess you're right about the price point, personally I don't think any boot can live up to a $300 price tag in terms of durability and performance but my opinion might have been biased as I managed to get my Predator 20.1 mid for $120 (about 70 pounds). Really great review though, it definitely is an eye opener when many people are being influenced by the people who act like it's a boot without flaws. Appreciate your reviews, cheers :)

@@echoes3111 no worries at all thanks for your opinon. Admittedly I only paid £100 for my predators as well but I of course review based on the rrp. I agree there are problems with the landscape and boot market at the moment, Nike moving everything to flyknit for example does kill some diversity and I do like that adidas have taken some risks more recently, I am particularly looking forwards to the predator 22 as I feel like the 21 will just be a tweak on this. Nice to see them moving in the right direction. I agree laceless has made an impact, although I'm personally not sure it's a positive one, but we shouldn't forget that Nike were the first company to release a knitted boot amongst many other innovations over time. Again 2022 I think could be big, it would be an expected time for a big revolution based on cycles in football boots. Although fkyprint might take off before that you never know. Either way I think we are both on the same page wanting to see innovation and companies try something new. Fingers crossed the new VNM, Ultra and X lines do it, I think puma have huge potential and I can't wait to see what they do.
@echoes3111
4 жыл бұрын
@@BootWizard Also, since we're on this matter, I wanted to know your opinion on the grip Nike has on the market. Although Adidas' laceless boots haven't been great (apart from maybe the copa) they could become a real threat to Nike in the future, and Puma's custom lacing system could grow to become a huge threat as well. With Adidas removing laces and Puma giving the option to customize your fit, do you think Nike are in danger since they pretty much have no answer to either without being accused of copying? I personally thing it's a waste if this happens as Nike did make some great innovations and does make some great boots but I feel that they may have gotten too complacent and now are relying heavily on an ageing Ronaldo and their young talents to promote their boots
@BootWizard
4 жыл бұрын
I think adidas basically handed the market to Nike with many years of boots that failed to capture the imagination while they tried to catch up with that huge 2014 that Nike had. adidas have really improved over the last few years and now offer a line up much closer to Nikes, the argument could be made that it's a better line up for 2020, and I agree that part of at least the hype around the laceless has helped them even if most of their .1 models are better. I think if adidas can do something with the Nemeziz line their whole line up will at least have some serious part of the market. Puma I don't think can rely on the Netfit system I don't think it's a big or revolutionary enough change to be game changing. But I think Puma have been gradually getting better at least from a marketing stand point and their team and athlete roster is very impressive and the upcoming ultra i think will help a lot make them a much more attractive proposition to buyers. The big question over Nike I think will come down to what they do with the VNM update and the next Mercurial. The VNM I don't think has caught fire with people and has issues, but if Nike can produce a genuine high quality modern power boot they could maintain their hold. The Mercurial is the bigger one, the next Mercurial needs to be a big update in my view and hopefully something truly innovative. As I mentioned before maybe something like the flyprint tech if it is capable of achieving the high standards. So I do still think Nike are the top of the market, but I think it's much closer than it's been for a very long time and Nike have to drop a very good VNM update and an eyecatching Mercurial update in order to stay on top with the tiempo and the VSN 2 at best being underwhelming either in excecution or a lack of changes. I would personally like to see at least one of them move away from a flyknit upper. I agree with you totally, there is no way Nike can do a laceless boot without copying adidas, and while.it would be the same for netift I don't feel like that's a path they would go down anyway.

Part of the reason would be that laced options don't have to have a knit that's as complex as the engineered primeknit used on the + model, however I'm totally with you, if they still made them from a primeknit material and more premium materials like the + all around the boot becomes a much more attractive proposition. @JW 99 you made the comment 🤷🏼♂️😂. If you're trying to reference the 2 very limited edition pairs of New Balance boots in my background that changes practically every video, then that's fairly pointless. And if you're trying to reference people who wear new balance boots in general then I would point out that stereotyping an entire brand and people who wear those boots is also pretty pointless, people should wear boots they like and that fit them well and not worry about the brand, brand loyalty means nothing to you, only the brands benefit and they have enough money without shameless loyalty. That's why I have made over 250 videos on boots, so many options for so many people and something out there for everyone, maybe from a brand they haven't tried yet
