I read online recently that, when using Lithium batteries on a bass boat, you should limit your speed on electronically controlled motors to 90% of maximum. Maybe that it why the BMS is set up the way it is. I thought, until now, that the higher max amperage limit and longer duration times where what set the TM batteries apart. You may have revealed another feature of them. If you find out more please post a follow up video.

I had this problem and Li Time blocked me. It's not a feature, the cells are out of balance. I use to say I'd stand my Li Time but after experiencing their customer service I'll stay away from them. The problem is the bms doesn't balance the cells. I ended up disassembling the battery and what I found is 1 cell is 3.61v and the other 3 are 3.25v. The bms is turning off when the one cell crosses 3.65v. Li Time blocked me in their group and wouldn't answer their emails. I fixed the issue by replacing the bms with an aftermarket jkbms with a 2a active balancer and the problem is gone

@OffGridBasement yea my 12v delivered 92ah before and 103ah after. The 24v was different. Turns out 2 cells were only doing 93ah and the other 6 were 101ah. I'm only getting the 93ah as I'm stopping the cells at 2.5v/cell. Just my experience with Litime. Keep up the good videos, I've learned a lot from them

The 12.8v after charging is intended. It was purposely programmed into the BMS to I guess prevent over charging? When you draw on the battery the voltage then jumps back up to the 13.5v. I don't understand it though. This seems like it would cause more problems when charging than benefits.

I bought the batts from told me the the issue was that the first two batts. have prismatic cells. the second two that were doing the same issue you are experiencing are cylindrical cells. so the the prismatic cells dont play well w/cylindrical cells in parallel/series so I shipped them back and received two grade A prismatic cell batts. and all is well. so that batt. you have there might be a cylindrical cell Batt. thanks for the great vids. keep em coming.

Great review !!! I bought the LiTime 100ah Max and created a Solar/battery system that powers a 3000w LiTime inverter, and using the Victron smart shunt, and Victron charge controller, both have blueTooth so I can tell what is happening with the load, and battery voltage.current adn time to discharge. And yes, I do wish they put a bluetooth in the battery, but what I have is very workable. again great review !!1

The BMS on this battery is definitely a bit quirky. People are having charging issues because of this in non trolling motor applications, which the battery has been marketed as being applicable in other applications. It literally has a picture of an RV on the side. If you just charge the sucker and slap into the boat it’s a badass battery. Doesn’t like extended absorption times like you might have to deal with on a multiplus that has a 1hr minimum absorption time.

Did you ever recheck the capacity of the battery? I'm seeing 12.8 volts on one LiTime when "full" and 13.3 on a second one - odd. Seems like some people are suggesting a bad BMS and unbalanced cells. I don't have the equipment/software to test and am hoping you actually rechecked your battery to help me figure out if I should return one of these batteries, thanks!

Thanks - LiTime told me the battery reports 12.8 volts when it goes into overcharge protection. They said to put a 30 watt load on it for 30 seconds and it would then report its true charge voltage. That did, indeed, work. I'll wager the cells are not in ideal top-balance but no way for me to confirm that I know off. Hopefully the BMS is sufficiently good to resolve over time and I don't have a bad cell! It would make an interesting video if you were in to opening one up in the 12.8 volt state to confirm and to see how balanced the cells were. And, maybe, you know how to see how well their BMS is at balancing? No published data I can find on how their BMS works...

Thanks for the review. I am going to buy two of these LiTime batteries for my 24 volt Garmin trolling motor. I have a question is the following charger adequate for the batteries? NOCO Genius GEN5X2, 2-Bank, 10A (5A/Bank) Smart Marine Battery Charger, 12V Waterproof Onboard Boat Charger, Battery Maintainer and Desulfator for AGM, Lithium (LiFePO4) and Deep-Cycle Batteries. 5 amp per bank, if I use the motor all day and charge overnight, will this charger work just fine? Noaco does make a 20A (10A/Bank) charger that is more money. thank you

A youtube video shows a 12-volt ReDoDo 100-amp out of the box that read 14.4 volts. I received the Li time mini 100 amp and the voltage is 13.6 volts. That means the battery is only 80-90 % charged. Correct? Is my battery defective?
@OffGridBasement

13.6v is over 90% full. It's not defective, but it's not typical of what a lifepo4 battery right out of the box should be. It would be a good idea to do some sort of capacity test. Thanks for the comment.

Great video! We bought 2 of these batteries for our RV - haven't installed them yet - we were charging them with a 20amp charger to get them charged to connect them in parallel. The charger stopped at 65ah and would not turn back on. We sent the charger back to AMZ. Bought a Victron 15 amp charger and the battery won't take any charge. We are measuring 12.6 volts on each battery. LiTime has told us it has to do with the overcharge protection and to put a small charge (30W) on the battery and discharge for 5 min., after 30 min the battery should return to full charge and reflect 13.33V and above. We don't have an inverter - my question - if we put them into our RV and run the slides, 12 v lights, etc. and the battery depletes (we have a shunt/monitor), do you think we could then plug in our shore power to restore the charge on the battery? Our charge controller (Prog Dyn) doesn't fully charge lithium, but we have the pendant to boost the charge. I thought of not using the pendant first, to see if we get at least to 85% charge. Sorry for this lengthy comment. :) You're good at what you do!

Thanks for the review I bought the exact same battery from Amazon 1-18-24 I cant get the battery to accept more than 30 amps durning charging, I am discharging the battery to around 11.6 volts before testing, I have tried it in my motorhome and on the bench with large cables and a new 75 amp converter charger, It does no better than 30 amps, I watched Will Prowes put a 100 amps in this battery. do you have any suggestions
@OffGridBasement
8 ай бұрын
I would suggest slowing down the charging. The BMS might be overheating. Does it not charge at all after you put in 30ah? What is the voltage when it quits? It should be around 13.7v If it doesn't continue to charge then the BMS programming might be set incorrectly and you need to send it back. Good luck and thanks for the comment.

Great video! I have a 20 watt 1 amp solar maintainer that I currently keep on my AGM 12 volt battery. It's at my dock, sits out in the sun all day and it keeps the AGM up. Would hooking the solar maintainer to the new Li Time have any effect on it at all as far as a charge or any harm to the battery? Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

If it's pushing upwards of 20v then there might be an issue. The BMS on a lifepo4 battery will shut down around 15v to protect the cells.

Hello, thanks for your test! I recently bought a Power Queen trolling battery (which I suspect is made by the same outfit) and had a similar experience with the voltage being 12.8 or so after fully charging (trip the BMS), but as soon as I applied a brief load the voltage came up to ~13.4. I don't understand what is happening there, but it isn't necessarily a problem. It could be an artifact of the BMS when it has cut off charging. There are a few weird aspects though. 1) Charging seems to cut off way before 14.6V. More like 13.7... or it jumps up from there very quickly.... and when discharging, it quits before it gets to 10V. 2) Charging stalls for a long time around 13.5V 3) I've cycled it 3 times and capacity seems to be declining each time. 4) It takes a lot more than 100ah to charge it. I'm concerned that I have a bad cell or something. Maybe the BMS tries to balance at 13.5V and it can't, but uses a lot of power in the attempt. I don't have good testing equipment unfortunately! I'm charging with an Imax B6 at 4.5a (takes forever) and discharging through an inverter hooked up to a heat lamp that runs through a Kill-A-Watt (AC power/energy measure). The inverter losses are an unknown in this case, but the first discharge test I got 1340Whr assuming 85% efficiency, so it's probably a bit better than 85%. The meter measured 1140Whr. The last one was only 1060Whr. One problem with both the charge and discharge test is that I have to pay close attention because when the BMS trips, I lose the data! Either my charging and discharging devices are randomly inconsistent, or something is wrong I think. Like a weak cell is causing a long balance attempt, and then it trips the BMS too soon at both ends. I know, I need to get a proper meter... but I don't think I have time to do that before the Amazon return window is over. If you have any experience or advice that would be helpful, please let me know! I'm currently starting the long charge cycle again...
@OffGridBasement

I think you really need better testing equipment in order to truly find out what is going on. I don't think it's a bad cell since you're getting 13.5v. It's possibly a weak cell.

Sir: How much do you think that spike shortens the cell life? Also most videos and spec sheets say not to keep a float charge (usually 13.4V) on the battery or keep it near 100% charged) as that makes a big difference in battery life. Most RV 12V power supplies keep the house batteries at about 13.5V when the unit is on shore power. Will that kill LIPO4 house batteries? Thank you, A T Burke
@OffGridBasement
Жыл бұрын
I'm actually running another capacity test currently to get better results on the battery. I don't think I did any damage. 13.4v is what I keep everything at. I don't think 13.5v will do any damage. 13.6v is the tipping point. Anything above 13.6v is where you might start to see damage over time. Hope this helps and thanks for the comment.

Thank you, Sir. I keep my 4 ea #31 deep cycle open vent lead acids at 13.45 for lead acid's best life. They are getting old but still test as excellent. I'm about to replace with lower cost (LiTime price area) LIPO4 batteries. I have been hesitant with all the talk about keeping LIPO batteries at 50% charge. This is for an emergency back up so I wanted to have them at 100% charge. Since the total amp draw will be at about 15-20 amps, 5 amps per battery they should get all their amp rating as it is at a 20 hour rate so no radical Peukert effect. My current float charger keeps them at 13.45 volts and just pulses a brief jolt every minute or so. Still I'd like to go LIPO, and will now that I have your explanation. P.S I think your explanation is great because it is the same as my conclusion :) A T burke@@OffGridBasement
