Love that you gave an honest review. Still seems a lot of money for the quality and colors it needs.

Its probably pretty in par really with the price to quality I think. I just prefer something of a higher quality :)

I was thinking about byuing this set of watercolor. I have a cheaper one which is similar and I am not very happy with it, but is fine. Thank you for reviewing Faber I have to consider.

What is the paper you are using? I find different brands of watercolor take to different brands of watercolor paper. A test I like to perform is how well I can get close to a primary color by mixing secondaries, to see how well the paints are made in regards to how our eyes shift the color spectrum. (purple and cool/ aqua green to make a grey blue, light green and orange to make a brown/yellow, and magenta and orange to make red - both mixing and layering). I agree with you about water brushes, they have to be of high quality with flow control. and the blocks bulging over I can see as a huge problem with the colors spilling into each other.

I agree with you Afterfauve, sometimes certain paints work better on different paper. I just used my Canson 200gsm medium watercolour paper which I use for most of my illustrations. I thought it would be better to test on something I use all the time with my normal watercolours. But I would like to also try them on a hot press paper and see what they can do :) Okay, thats an interesting test I can try with them. I think I will probably integrate these into my work somehow. It's just a different feel and look to what i'm used to. Haha i'm sure some people love water brushes.... I mean I know watercolourists that use them exclusively. I'm just not one of them :P

@@StuffBySunshine I like the current water brushes I am using, but they are like buying a lottery ticket. I use a set I bought but I had to buy a total of 3 sets until I found one that I liked. and I can't always find the same brand.

I started my watercolor journey with the smaller set (30 something colors). Maaaan was I frustrated because I thought I was doing something wrong. I bought them specifically because I wanted to learn how to do the wet on wet technique. Instead it was like drawing with an opaque watercolor set from my primary school art class days. I disagree with you on that you are getting what you are paying for. This set is way overpriced for what you are getting. Something that also really bothered me that you did not mention, is that these are not refillable. Once a color is empty, you have to buy a whole new pallet. Even the cheapest sets have refill colors, why can’t Faber Castell do them?

That is a VERY GOOD POINT! I didn’t even think about the refill ability, I guess because I don’t use pans a lot 😂 When I look at the set I would think it suited someone starting out, however your points are very valid and true! Might be something for Faber Castell to think about!
