Thy Flesh Consumed is my favorite episode competing head to head with Knee-Deep. The wood-metal aesthetic is pretty much what comes to mind when I think of Doom, also I think that limiting health/ammo is an interesting way of increasing difficulty without throwing in millions of demons as it makes encounters more cerebral, even if it is not implemented all that well

E4m1 and e4m2 if played transitionally are incredibly hard challenge for me on uv-fast. I don't remember such places even in final doom which required so much effort to beat

I rememebr my first encounter with Thy Flesh Consumed. I was still a fresh doom player. I had just gotten Doom after watchinh Civvie 11's video on Doom. I was completely unaware of what I should prepare for. So I jumped right in on Ultra Violence. And I died. And Died. And Died. And Died. This episode kicked my ass at the start but after that it really falls off in terms of difficulty. Picks up at the end but 3 or 4 maps of dead simple maps really doesn't help this episode. It's funny to think that nowadays I don't see the challenge much anymore. This episode to me is pretty damn good honestly. Really good high points that help to offset It's bad bad bad low points. I dislike Mcgee's Levels, they are bad. Shawn Green's levels aren't the worst. And Dr. Sleep made a fucking great penultimate map, bless his soul, amen. Wilits and Chasar could have been better but it's acceptable. I like that every single time I have played it I have found a new pathway to beat it. But that's more an accidental byproduct of the maps poor design honestly. And nothing needs to be said about Romero's Maps, they're great. Even Perfect Hatred is a level I have a soft spot for. A personal favorite of mine. I feel that after Doom 1 Romero mastered the art of Level Making in a way that no one else really understood. Since Doom 1 I don't recall a single map he made that I personally disliked. I think this episode needs a reworking on which maps went where. I have a personal wad of mine where I reorganize some of the Doom Map to be in other locations to make a better difficulty curve. And it goes. E4M4, E4M9, E4M5, E4M3, E4M2, E4M6, E4M7, E4M8 with the secret level being E4M1. I feel this is definitely a better difficulty curve then what was offered in the proper Thy Flesh Consumed. At least that's how I enjoy it.

for me, its a toss up between this episode and the 1st one. Overall, E4m2 and E4M6 are my favorite levels in the series.

Also, Thy Flesh Consumed can be considered rushed because in E4M3 "Sever The Wicked", there is a set of stairs where every step counts as a secret, which could be a copy and paste error, there are also 2 torches with secret sectors, you can't reach them, unless you use IDSPISPOPD/IDCLIP(wall clip cheat), due to the hitbox of the torches getting in the way, that map was also made by Shawn Greene, who is someone very unfamiliar to us fans compared to Sandy Petersen, Tom Hall, and John Romero. Also, to this day, it's impossible to get 100% secrets in E4M3, not even TAS could do it. Also, Ultimate Doom is basically the latest version of Doom, due to this there's no newer version that fixes these problems, probably because ID Software was busy making other projects including Quake.

Unruly Evil should have been the first level in Thy Flesh Consumed.

Just found out that TFC has more barons than all 3 original chapters combined (on skil levels 3+, on 1-2 it's just *equal*)

They should have created a new unique boss for the final level. The mastermind is defeated too easily.

I always get confused between doom, doom 2, ultimate, Felsham consumed, makes my brain hurt! Is doom 3 going to be looked at?

Basically first came DOOM that was shareware. It was Episode 1 - Knee-deep in The Dead. Then commercial DOOM came and added two extra episodes, Shores of Hell and Inferno (that was common method of releasing games that were originally shareware). Then came DOOM2 as fully commercial game from day 1 and after that The Ultimate DOOM (basically DOOM repackaged as fully commercial game) that added Episode 4 - Thy Flesh Consumed. After that came Final DOOM that had two new extra-long episodes: TNT and Plutonia. This short summary ignores console ports (DOOM of Ps1 is best in my books) and so-called DOOM-clones.
