Revit LT is perfect for my purpose as an architectural draftsman. Using wall-in-place compensates for model-in-place, save for mass. Marginally, Revit LT is very much worth it if you're doing residential to small commercial & industrial projects. Thanks for the video.

@@marty3194 It very much depends on what you're going to be 'drawing' most of the time. If you're going to be making very intricate models, I'd 100% suggest Blender, on Steam. (It's free and there are tons of resources!) For my purposes, i.e. modeling casework, most furniture, doors & windows, most manner of buildings & their respective facades: Revit LT does the trick. I won't, however, be able to make conceptual mass and such, but I wouldn't anyway, since I am not an architect. :) EDIT: Regarding the visualizations: I mainly render in cloud. I'll supplement my wallet with cloud points if I run out, or if I am in a bind, I export the scene to Blender and then I render it there. I don't have a very powerful computer nor graphics card, therefore render in cloud works PERFECTLY for me.

@@landofpc I wholeheartedly agree with you. Doing drainage sections for residential projects, even small-scale commercial and industrial, I'll just bust out the 'ol annotations and detail lines, and put in some good elbow grease! :) It also helps me revise my levels, and I make sure I understand the system better.

I use Revit LT for interior design projects. Although there are some limitations compared to full Revit (what I miss the most are no add-ins, massing, view filters, assemblies) I am quite happy with Revit LT for this purpose. Sometimes it's frustrating to use more complicated workflow when you know it would be easier with full version, but you just have to cope with TL's limitation and sometimes use workarounds. The price difference is just too large for me to justify full Revit version. Tom

For me Revit LT has been great. I'm an architectural building designer for residential and small commercial. While there's a couple.of things I don't get with LT like plugins like you mentioned, Its still amazing value for someone like me who is in their first year of business. Great video like all of your others.

As an architect with small projects, LT is quite OK for me, though I really miss view filters and the shape editing of (especially) roofs (modify subelements). I also wish there was a way to "automatically" fill in certain parameters, more specifically parameters which reflect the location of elements: which rooms are they in or between which rooms are they situated? Adding a room calculation point to system families would help a lot, if it's doable to program that, that is. For my "horizontal" in ground plumbing I made line based detail item families with a shared length parameter (which I use for other families as well), so I can schedule their quantity in length per type/Keynote. I made my own (vertical) (rain)pipe families: square and cilindrical, with customizable section dimensions and height, both with/without horizontal/angled extensions on top. And then the cherry on top.... For my execution files: I made measuring schedules for each category which I export (one by one, by hand, yes, as there can't be any add-ons installed in LT). And then, with macro's I made in visual basic (VBA) for Word and Excel I automatically import them in a nice Excel file with a layout so I can give this quantity document to my client or send it out myself to contractors for making their bid. Everything is set in my Revit and Office template files. I've been working on this system for 2-3 years, and it may be overkill for my small projects, but not having to calculate/measure your quantities "by hand" anymore is a real time saver. The only real downside I have is the manual (one by one) export of the schedules.

This level of "work" is just painfull. To engeneer a whole workflow to get around basic functinality is terrible. At this point i would have considered archicad, sketchup. Or gone rogue with any of the free software out there.

@@trowawayacc Well, I already had the basis for my word to excel (specifications to measuring spreadsheets) in VBA before I got Revit. It was only a matter of programming the next step: importing quantity schedules in my measuring Excel spreadsheets. As for Revit, well, yes that was a lot of work, bit now it's done, all I have to do is update for each new version and I'm done. I'm happy with this and it was fun working on it.

Thanks Balkan Architect. I'm using Revit LT now for real life work as my student version ran out. Downgrading is a biatch but hey affordability is what you gotta do sometimes... FIY I am able to modify, shape and edit floors. No solar analysis is really annoying for me. I love to see how eaves/awnings work in different seasons as it's super important for sustainable design. Also in Australia most councils will require solar studies as part of a DA (Development Application). The sun is shining in render I did in the cloud though so it's nice to know the sun is shinning somewhere...

I’m 18 months into Revit LT and submitted my first project for Planning and B’Reg’s you are absolutely right that the omission of plug-in’s is limiting and the loss of in project modelling limited, but it’s difficult for lone practitioner to spend so much/month on a program. To conclude I’m absolutely committed to learning the Revit system and am thrilled with the results

I had AutoCAD LT for years as I was a 1990’s CAD geek. When my previous employer decided to switch to Revit I upgraded to the Revit LT suite. That’s where I learned a lot of the ins and outs of Revit. And it’s perfectly fine for content creation., other than adaptive components, massing, and trusses. And it’s also great for drafting views, converting CAD drawings, and other somewhat mundane tasks. Yes LT is fairly crippled, but it has to be or no one would shell out the cash for a full version of Revit. That all said, I’d love to see what my PC would do with a full version of Revit and Enscape.

Small scale single family homes for the most part... I find I have to supplement many items on the drawing sheet with 2D linework and hatches which is a pain but I'm used to it from my AutoCAD days... The 2 biggest things missing are the Floor & Roof Shape Editing and the Sun and Shadow Studies! These things should've been included as they are highly used in day-to-day architecture...

Very helpful my friend! As always your vid's rock. So to be clear: - The tree plugin I bought from your site won't work in LT (either because the leaf density settings or the random placing options are macros)? - Really bummed about decals... I use them for creating fireplace fakes, childrens rugs in child rooms, wall art throughout the home, screenshots of the blueprint of the house I'm modeling on a drafting desk, and a Revit screenshot of the house model work-in-progress on a desktop PC in that drafting room. Surely there's a workaround to importing a model with a decal placed on it by another program though? - External rendering engines like Chaos are no longer options in LT? I know Balkan's super busy but if anyone knows.. please comment. Happy Holidays to everyone!! One world, one peace.. hopes and prayers to Ukraine.

Hmmm. I was almost ready to go with Revit LT (I design and draft residential and It's just me), but... no export to PDF? It's pretty worthless to set up the construction document blueprints and I can't print them. I don't have a large format printer, so what I do in regular Revit is save the blueprints to PDF and print them at my local print shop. Also, if I'm selling a design, and the customer wants a e-copy rather than paper, looks as though there is no way to get them in a format a customer can print (PDF is the standard). Oh well... guess there is a reason it is so cheap. But everything else besides not being able to model in place (which the workaround is just use the family editor) I could certainly live with. A lot of the MEP features and analysis stuff just clutters the interface up for me. I never use them.

Learn to hack. Join a college class that teaches software and use student version to learn. Outside usa many just hoist the colors but its getting dangerous and honestly autodesk does not deserve your time. Sketchup also does bim now, archicad is a thing. And on the free end blender and freeCAD do a decent job. The most important part is getting to know the construction systems. Detailing is a huge part of the draftman job.

For real work LT is terrible. So bad i rather use CAD. No filters No addons or dynamo No shape edditing Make work take 2 to 3 times longer. Please instead use anything else. FreeCAD is a better software and its free so is blender. If you want cheaper stuff archicad and sketchup also step up. Dont just learn autodesk software you will regret it. If you must learn something learn how stuff is built put together this will make your skill modeling shine anywhere with any software.
