Finally got this to the table for four! Took a while to teach and for people to completely grasp what was going on but loved it and am very much looking forward to playing again. Nice review.

I recently acquired Revive. So glad to hear you say so many good things about it. I'm looking forward to tabling it this weekend.

I ove this game - my favourite game of all time. I especially love exploring each of the tribes. My goal is to win with each tribe, moon and sun side, which could take quite awhile. As for the expansion, I've played it and it's absolutely amazing. The perfect type of expansion for me - it doesn't change the feel of the game, but just adds a few more decisions to your game play. And the four new tribes - they are all amazing. One even pulled a guy from our game group back into the game. He said it does exactly what he thought was missing from the base game, a way to more directly interact with the board.

Thank you for this review! You got me interested in this game, even though there is tons of little things to remember during play it seems and I wouldn't be that good at it. I might give it a try sometimes.

Completely agree with your review, having only played it with 2. Looking forward to a third player for this one. It’s a keeper for me.

I totally slept on this just bc of the box art (just figured it wasn’t for me). Definitely don’t judge a game by its cover situation here. I have been hearing so much about this game recently and had to look up some reviews. It seems like something I’d quite enjoy. Thanks for the video and sharing your thoughts!

Medium weight Euro? Funny, here in Germany, it is definitely perceived as a heavy Euro (aka expert game)!

It's really not an 'expert' weight Euro game... I was a bit disappointed by how light it felt, even though I was expecting it to be heftier. It's even lighter than Arche Nova. In terms of complexity, it's roughly on par with Scythe, but I guess some people still consider this a heavy expert game as well... ;) The only truly 'heavy' aspect of Revive is how its overproduced components take up too much table space for what it is :D.

If we use half-steps, I'd say it medium-heavy. Castles of Burgundy I would classify as medium, and this is above it in weight. That said, I really don't think it's heavy.

@@RaduStanculescu I believe it might be more sensible to use a simple numbering system from 1 to 5, like what's used on Port Game, rather than a verbal one, as the latter often sounds judgmental. In Germany, there's a slight issue with the game awards like 'Spiel des Jahres' (Family Game of the Year) and 'Kennerspiel des Jahres'. However, these designations became entirely obfuscated. After Dominion won the Family Game award, before there was a separate category for medium heavy games, the Kennerspiel category was introduced. But then, 'Quacks of Quedlinburg,' with a complexity of 1.9, won the Kennerspiel, even though Quacks is more of a light family game. What I'm trying to say is that these titles have become entirely meaningless. In a world where Quacks is considered a Kennerspiel, Revive is heavy++ and the Lacerda games are black holes bending space and time.

@@janniskoberstein3310yeah, using 1 to 5 makes enough sense. I kind of separate games into 6 categories (light, medium-light, medium, medium-heavy, heavy, super heavy), and it's served me well enough when deciding which game to play with who. But it's just a personal preference.

And SdJ and KdJ are usually won by at most medium-light games these days, definitely not an award I'm interested in. I find many other awards more interesting for regular gamers. Revive would qualify as way too heavy to win KdJ anyway. :D

For the first time, we don’t agree on the appreciation of a game 😊 While I absolutely love the mechanics, I just find the game dry and meaningless. I felt the same with Race for the Galaxy and Godspeed. Maybe the fact that the theme isn’t really present, I just felt I wasn’t involved. I tried it with 3 and 2 players and didn’t feel the need to try it with 4. I’d rather play Scythe or Dwellings of Eldervale 😊🤷🏻♂️
