Albert Midlane (1825-1909) was a businessman in Newport, Isle of Wight. He began writing hymns at the age of 17, and during his lifetime penned more than 300. "Revive Thy Work" Was written in 1860. but was not published for a couple of decades. As with most of his hymns, Albert Midlane wrote both the tune and the lyrics. The fine tune has been borrowed for other sets of words. including "Thy Perfect Love" in "Hymns Old and New."
