My friend Omar's 2004 Honda Civic had been experiencing overheating issues. He took it to a Honda dealer who told him it needed a new transmission. Now it's been parked for the last 3+ years.
I'm not a mechanic but we managed to get it started without too much trouble. We put in fresh gas and jumped the battery, which is totally dead not surprisingly. It popped right off but the throttle was stuck. We managed to free it but it idled as high as 2,000 rpm.
After a very short test drive the temperature gauge spiked to maximum, so we shut it down. However, the engine was not hot to the touch and we opened the radiator valve without any kind of pressurized release.
It obviously needs some mechanical work, but it shifts fine and the engine runs smooth, so we think this car can be saved... hopefully without a new transmission or other major expense.
