⚡STEP-BY-STEP⚡
In this video, you're gonna learn how to fix damages caused by scratches or dog bites, specifically on the main door of a house.
We'll start by sanding all the damaged parts, smoothing out the indentations.
Once you're done, remove the dust using medical-grade alcohol.
Choose a wood putty suitable for the job and begin filling in the damaged areas.
Use your finger to press into the gaps, making sure to cover the joints as well.
Once it's dry, sand the putty for a smooth finish, removing any excess while paying attention to the corners and edges.
For the next step, we're gonna mix varnish and putty to add some color to the areas that need more filling or reconstruction.
You can find the products I used in the video description.
Fill the gaps gradually and sand again.
Repeat this step as many times as necessary, depending on the depth of the damages.
As you can see, this part was completely broken, and I've been adding layers to restore its shape.
After sanding, apply the first coat of varnish, making sure to choose a lighter shade than the original paint since we'll be applying multiple layers.
It's important to use a small brush to avoid saturating the rest of the wood with varnish.
This is the most tedious part of the process because we have to bring back the color to very small areas. If we don't do it right, there will be a noticeable contrast between the healthy and damaged areas. But be patient, the result is worth it.
Sand the areas you just varnished once it's dried to remove any excessive shine.
By the way, feel free to subscribe if you want to learn more about home maintenance.
As you can see, it practically has the same tone once it's sanded.
Now, let's move on to a very interesting part. Mix sawdust or wood shavings into the putty to help the color adhere better when painting. The quantities are relative, depending on how much the putty absorbs. You'll notice it as you start mixing, so be careful not to put too much, making it easier to handle.
Apply the mixture all over the surface and spread it out.
I've cut a hard plastic cup to give it a concave shape, making it easier to apply.
Use a knife to define the edges for a more realistic finish.
Once it's dry, sand the putty and apply the first coat of varnish.
You can use a fork to simulate the wood grain and apply another coat of varnish on top.
Here it is, freshly varnished. Let it dry to decide if it needs another coat.
And this is the final result. Leave me your feedback and any questions you may have in the comments.
