I have two favorite Jean Simmons films: "So Long at the Fair," and "Guys and Dolls." She was most luminous in "So Long at the Fair," just 20 years old then, and paired with the legendary Dirk Bogarde. The movie was most popular in Europe, on which Bogarde explained, "It's because we were pretty." But, wow! you should see Jean Simmons' character, Vickie Barton, looking for her missing brother, whom everyone says he does not exist. She is relieved to meet Dirk Bogarde, the only one who says he had met her brother and that he does exist. The feeling of relief and affirmation that she hadn't lost her mind, was enough for her to burst into tears, but Jean Simmons did it ever so delicately. Bogarde said he fell in love with Jean Simmons during the filming and would have asked her to marry him, but she ran off with Stuart Granger. For her part, Jean said, she too, fell in love with Dirk Bogarde, until she realized he was gay, and that was the end of that. Jean Simmons won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress 1956 for her portrayal of Sarah Brown in the beloved American fable, "Guys and Dolls," as the love interest of Marlon Brando's Sky Masterson. In that musical, Jean gets inadvertently drunk, sings and dances with Brando, engages in a fist fight, and is draped over Brando's shoulder as they escape from the barfight. The movie also stars Frank Sinatra and Vivian Blaine. Both Brando and Sinatra are in their toppest forms, but Jean Simmons steals the show. My favorite movie of all time. Sorry that these two most excellent Jean Simmons films are not featured in the video.

Beautiful Jean Simmons. I recently watched 'Black Narcissus' in which Jean plays the part of a young Indian girl. She is stunning beyond words, almost ethereal.

3 personal favorites are Spartacus, This Could Be the Night, and Adam and Evelyne. She’s awesome, and underrated. Saw her live on stage in 1977 doing A Little Night Music and singing Send in the Clowns. What a treat.

I agree with almost everybody who said #1 was Spartacus but I prefer #2 The Robe due to co-star Richard Burton! She was way underrated and likely a victim of Howard Hughes revenge which took her out of the running. Sad. Beautiful actress RIP. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Your Otto Preminger story was wrong. It was Marilyn Monroe he was being mean to the set of River of No Return. He kept redoing a slap scene between her and Robert Mitchum. Asking him to hit her harder. Finally Mitchum turned to him and said "like this?" and slapped Preminger so hard he fell to the ground. He left Marilyn Monroe alone after that.

My fave film is Spartacus! She appeared au natural in that film, me buckos! Man, did she have a nice rack, too! There is a photo of her at the beginning of this video taken from stills from the Spartacus set during the nudie scene when she was bathing in a stream and approached by Kirk Douglas (Spartacus) that proves that beyond a doubt!

Home Before Dark and The Grass Is Always Greener - complete opposites. That blasted H Hughes did his best to try and ruin actresses' careers - of course, nutty as a fruitcake after his accident but what was wrong before it? HBD was such an adult film like The Cobweb (?) where Lillian Gish played a b---h for most of it.
