Women in the 50's were so suppressed in the ideas of conventional lifestyles of just being a housewife, April didn't fulfill her dreams of having an acting career, at the first blow she quit and hid herself into the house chores which sucked the life out of her. She resented her husband who even though had a shitty job as a salesman at least he was out there living his life, seeing people, talking to strangers even while she felt secluded in those (even today) lonely, quiet neighborhoods. Her kids were getting older and as they grew she felt a little more free to go back to her activities out of the house and having another baby was to keep her chained into the house for more years to come. Idk maybe I'm wrong, but I'm glad I got to live on this era where being a housewife or a workwife can become a choice of our own

What is the reason behind April having sex with shep campbell and was she punishing frank or taught a lesson by doing the abortion thing for not going to paris.

I claim that 80% of people who consider suicide seriously would be willing to donate their organs , something that Can save lives, supporting their family , they would be doing something great something due to their circumstances would never be able to do alive, this is something that should be discussed , it is moral , at least much more moral and beneficial than leaving mentally ill people suffer social and economical hell , and the worst of all you are not saving them for moral reasons but actually for immoral sinister reasons

The last seen is so lame.. I don’t get it the dude said literally five words throughout the whole film and he’s THE last scene! Whole movie is great, very realistic and timeless with lots of different messages, funny too

I've just watched Revolutionary Road. I would like to say it's an excellent film, except that its message is the usual PC nonsense that women have the gift of life but men are blind and crush them. Give us a break, Sam Mendes, from your "four legs good two legs bad" ideology ! You'll end up like Tarantino, who says it's ok to murder someone on whose coat you've pinned a label saying 'enemy' (I'm thinking of Inglourious Basterds) As for your analysis Ms Pippas, I reckon you're looking a little too deeply. As I say, I don't believe the film is really about 'existential problems' at all, but simply promotes the childish idea of 'the patriarchy'. That is such a shallow, dishonest idea ! I loved American Beauty btw - one of my favourite films - but PC is pure poison !

I didn't see that at all. I felt like she took control and steered them into a ditch w her irrational planning. I also saw her as highly abusive towards him. I saw that he could be uplifted or crushed at just a few choice words from her. I felt it was unfair of him to gaslight her too. Patriarchy is a good thing and I didn't see this film being overly PC. I look for PC propaganda in films because i reject it.

It does have the idea of woman getting to choose, but it's deeper than that. It's about how they are tired of the surbuban lifestyle and how they figure out that it's all just a lie. This ties in with the idea of finding a purpose, but what purpose do you have if it's all a fraud. She discovers this and is what leads to an unstoppable frenzy, you could call her "crazy" just like John was "crazy", but they had the same idea and both reacted badly to Frank not wanting to go to paris. They both agree that Frank is used to this lifestyle and doesn't want to change, but April does. This is placed in the 50's were it was almost an obligation to have this type of lifestyle or else you're destined to fail. Not following this idea made you a "bad person" and brings out the true you, that's why in there last fight Frank confesses that he wished she aborted when before he wanted to keep the baby because it was the right thing to do if you follow the surburban ideology of whats right and wrong.

@@rodrigoluunaa very interesting. I've asked a couple of ppl to watch this movie to help me fill in the blanks. I feel like Frank didn't confess that he wished she'd aborted, I think he was just trying to hurt her during a fight. When she did the 180 at the end and made breakfast for him, was she pretending the whole time? To be civil? If so why?

@@tlorynp I feel it was to try and be the typical suburban wife and know nothing but to support his husband for the last time, to see if she could keep living this lie and the last attempt to make him happy for one last time. She wanted him happy before he left because she knew that what would happen next would ruin his life. After all, she was capable of acting like nothing was wrong because that's what she wanted to work as and after her failed play and their first big fight (on screen at least), she also acted like nothing was wrong after and tried to make him happy
