That is not the manner we used to install the first insulation in the slot , " leatheroid," as it could shift in the slot. We used to fold each end such that the end folds on each insulation in the slot would wrap on the outside of the slot ends and it would stop the insulation from shifting . One needs to have a slightly longer insulation before the folds and good measurement is necessary. One hopes that those teeth in the slots in those laminations were smoothed out properly as that enamel touching the metal can be scratched. The winding in those slots look so loose and impregnation to stop the winding moving with respect to one another was imperative in reliable motors as used in the Royal Navy. Good memories of my younger life.
