Great video and explanation of the Applegate technique. As a 64 year old former Marine and life long martial artist, the Applegate technique seems to fit better tactically with my martial arts training and self defense philosophies than other methods. I enjoyed watching you deploy your knife(as in my view a knife is sometimes a better tool for close range self-defense than a firearm. Training with a knife, in my case Escrima, takes a lot of time, but some of the techniques like zoning and getting offline, are applicable to using a firearm.). Some concealed carry people I've met over the years don't seem to realize that a handgun is one of the tools for self-defense, not the only tool. Your point about considering whether you should engage in a target at 20 feet or more, is another point in your video I enjoyed and applaud you for making. Keep up the great work...:)

Being pretty ignorant of knife fighting, I tried to recreate the Applegate technique as best as I could. You should check out my Point Shooting web page...near the bottom are two videos (one my own) on G-Wrap pistol retention technique. www.ambgun.com/ambidextral-pistol/point-shooting

Absolutely the wrong way to train. Put your kid in front of the target and tell me that you’re going to “point shoot”. I’d like to see that. Better way to train, find your sights every time, even at 3 yards, for an acceptable sight picture. This is straight up irresponsible.

I checked out the vid from Viking Tactics. At 1:21 he validates point shooting when the target is so close you can’ get the firearm up fast enough to align sights. Depends on target distance. Of course you’d want to use your sights every chance you are able. If Applegate had been in 200 gunfights, I’d say his theories are reality based. Also, I believe his theories are based on Sykes and Fairbairn’s experiences as cops in Shanghai. I recommend reading about them.

Did not expect to see Anonymous Conservative's book come up, so that was a really nice surprise. Many folks have run into "that guy" at the range, but can't quite explain what's off. More often than not it's because they're really a rabbit leveraging guns for social status, and don't really understand firearms any more than a peacock really understands its feathers. In that respect, would you say that Project Appleseed is more aimed at "wolves" to develop more practical skills, rather than talents which are great in exhibition but may otherwise lack in utility?

"Leveraging guns for social status"...great comment. Very closely related to Social Metaphysics there... thecultureofreasoncenter.com/social-metaphysics.html Project Appleseed is aimed at wolf cubs...foundation skills, especially for automatizing Natural Point of Aim and thinking of alarm lists. I do regard most of the sitting positions as largely useless...I greatly prefer squatting for rapid in and rapid out and moving. But squatting is not allowed at Appleseed Events for safety reasons. I view the progression as starting with Appleseed, then basic ambidextrous technique, then run 'n gun where the targets are shooting back...paintball or airsoft. I'm not a fan of the stopwatch obsession of most "combat" oriented firearms sports. At least not if we're thinking toward real world martial purposes.

@@AmbGun Listened to a clip, will have to download that and listen to the whole thing and really digest. In the sample, there was a snippet about being a "metaphysical outcast", and that reminded me of a discussion I had with some folks about Cain, in that he was more worried about his punishment being too harsh, and people killing him, than simply being repentant. Very much concerned about impressions rather than what really should have mattered most. His focus was entirely on the material, despite the surface level assertion of the story being that he was interacting with a supernatural being. I've got two pups that will need some rites-of-passage in an era where boys are not really allowed to be boys, and they're already interested by Nerf and airsoft, so I'll definitely see what's going on with Appleseed in the Pacific Northwest. I came into this "lifestyle choice" later in life myself, didn't grow up around many firearms or anything, so there'd probably even be some "why didn't I realize that" lessons to humble me, and set me on a better path as well. Either way, thanks again for your videos! There's a decent backlog to catch up on, so hopefully it won't be poor form if I keep commenting on older stuff. :)

19:33 indeed perspective!!! Odds are not having to defensively deploy my firearm ever. Vehicle accidents......yup! Then....OUCH!!! I have a Remington RM 380. Every time you pull the trigger you get a firing pin strike and with laser bullets a laser burst. I shoot random objects in the room from all kinds of compromised positions and weird places. If you are within 10 feet of me, I won't miss by more than 2 inches more often than not. I can shoot hundreds of rounds indoors and see exactly where that shot is placed for almost zero cost. It is by far and above any training aid available. I definitely prefer Hammer fired guns with second strike capability so you do not have to continue racking the slide.

It is kind of what Kyle Rittenhouse did in Kenosha. It'd be easier on a bullpup. You can do something similar...bring the rifle to your shoulder with the rifle canted. I have a little video coming up with the RDB, I'll make a point of demonstrating.

I did a little rifle "point shooting" with canted rifles. With the AR, I'm confident out to 50 yards. With the RDB, a bit less... Unlisted video kzitem.info/news/bejne/p31jvo6woIJziZw

the only problem is that at 20:50 you are walking backwards , tactical error , create space by making the assailant move backwards with strikes ( and I don't mean close fist strikes, that can injure the hand).put a target on a moveable rig to accomplish proper training.
