My other hobby is books and it's interesting how authors and book stores seem to do everything possible to get more people into the bookstore or buy their book as opposed to board games where I have seen influencers and others in the hobby brag about blocking people from the hobby. I recently spent $125 on TTR legacy, old west great game, the designers had no problem taking my money but then in the rule book they wrote a thing on how you are a POS for playing a game with an old west theme because of some of the historical issues involving. To me that summarizes a lot of board games lately.

If you may remember the board game Twitter mob came after him twice during the pandemical over issues that had nothing to do with board games, he did not fight back and just took it to the point of almost Chinese cultural revolution levels where he joined the very mob attacking him

@@kidcardco I believe the second dog pile was that he at first tried to defend one of his followers who was "adjacent" to someone else in the hobby who had conservative views and he initially tried to broker a cease fire and the mob turned in on him and it became like what you saw in the cultural revolution where you had to do a self criticism to survive the red guard

Oh gosh. I never liked his channel and now I like it even less. Ridiculously divisive comment! Had no idea he said that. Maybe I was already picking up a vibe years ago. I would gladly play with anyone and would hope they would do the same. And if I can be frank, I have to as I really only know 3-4 gamers that are the same politically as myself, so you can probably figure out how I lean. 😂 I feel the board game industry leans the other way for sure, but I don’t see why politics has to be part of it.

I can’t stand his politics, but I still watch him because I can look past that. Sounds like he cannot sadly based on that statement and double down. I have watched him for years and enjoyed and would like to meet him and get to know him and his seemingly awesome wife. I would hope he would feel the same.

I still watch his videos all the time (the old videos). I don’t love the shininess of his videos now. I like the raw shaky cam stuff that he used to do. I would play games with anyone. Just like I work with any one no matter political sides. Life is all about differences of opinions and being part of the world means having to navigate those waters as adults and learn to get along with everyone.

I would never exclude someone for their political beliefs. I suppose if they were outspoken enough that it took you out of the experience then maybe I wouldn't do so again, but in most circumstances politics have nothing to do with sitting down and playing a game with someone.

I think certain old guard influencers in board games had quite a good grift going before the hobby grew and with more people in the hobby and social media there became a competition for demo copies, free games, and paid gigs, and the political stuff is there cover for running people out of the hobby, this week it might be Trump, next week it's AI art on a box cover, the next week sexy elves, at one point they were blocking people over the Johnny Depp divorce case, bottom line in my opinion this stuff is some of the old board game Twitter mob trying to stay relevant and using politics and social issues as a cover for purging people from the hobby who threatened their gravy train of getting paid to play board games

Rahdo's a dweeb who is over compensating in a desperate attempt to fit in with a fringe but vocal segment of the gaming community -- I've also stopped watching him some time ago. I don't like it when people bring their politics to the gaming table, but I don't think anyone sane refuses to play a game with someone because they see the world differently.

I dont know why people get so extreme about one party or the other. I like to think most Americans fit more in the midldle. That being said, I wouldn't want to play with anyone who pushes their agenda at the board game table.

Not sure if you saw a large number of board game personalities and designers released a political statement today.....
