I wanted to thank you. I bought one of these and when I got it it was awful. Volume, Tone, and Band Selector was varying from not working to massive crackling and was a nightmare. I did exactly what you said and showed to all 3 and it's like new. Again Thank you

Great video, that little deck is super cool. I saw one on ebay and wanted to know more. I started to get into AMRAD stuff awhile back, a lot of it is just complicated and the jargon is specific to that hobby. There's just a learning curve for specialized jargon is just a bit steep. People aren't trying to obscure information or not present it in a simple manner, you've just gotta learn the vocab, then you'll have your "ah-ha!" moment. If you're not familiar... When you're turning the big knob you're making broad adjustments and the small knob is fractions of the number. Like if you're over 4.5, when you adjust the small knob you're moving like 4.5001, 4.5002, 4.5003 etc. There are a lot of decimal places, that unit may not be able to get fine enough adjustment to hear folks talking. Another thing to note is there are a lot of digital signals in the air now, so some of the high pitch and beep noises that you're hearing is definitely digital signal which that unit can't modulate. Check out a local RF/AMRAD club, a lot of folks in that hobby are super nice and helpful and want to teach others. The way your antenna is setup won't give you great reception. Look up an LW1650 antenna, they're pretty cheap... though you can probably build your own with the wire you've got. Good luck! Thanks again for the cool video!

Those radios work nice but when exposed to temperature changes over time the pots would get tarnished and create static. Your contact cleaning was just the ticket! Antenna worked great! 😃👍

With a long wire antenna for receiving, the length of wire is not as important as when you are transmitting. When Transmitting you have to have a tuned antenna otherwise you will have a mismatch and send reflected signal back into the radio rather then sending the signal out of the antenna. This situation could damage you transceiver. With a plain old receiver, that does not matter. For grounding, do not operate your long wire antenna receiver during a lightning storm . As a matter of fact, just disconnect your receiver from your antenna when not in use, to be safe.

These sets have been around from the early 80s in various brand names, truly a pile of cheap and nasty junk.
