It crossed all genre's, had up and coming comedians, and provided LIVE music.( even if the performances were taped, the taping was a live recording done solely for midnight special.) Correction "Welsh witch", not 'west witch".. It's the story of Rhiannon a goddess "Welsh mare" (a horse) fom the "underworld". Rhiannon who was being punished for something she never did. Her punishment was to carry anyone on her back who crossed the bridge to enter "the castle". She is connected to the "3 birds". A human man rescued her. It's a long story but this song is all about this Welsh witch goddess Rhiannon and her story. When Stevie Nicks wrote this she had no idea of the story, but found out later it is exactly what she "picked up" and wrote this song about.

Yes, I know this, but that book is where she got the name "Rhiannon" not necessarily the "story'. Stevie said after she wrote the song she heard and read about the "Welsh Mare Goddess Rhiannon's story" and realized that somehow she had connected with this Welsh Goddess story Rhiannon and that was who she had written the song about. "physic or supernatural" or both this is how Stevie is, she is very very connected to "spirit' or whatever you would like to call it.

I couldn't disagree more. It's JUST MY OPINION, and I'm NOT dissing you or yours but, I feel that Stevie was MUCH better when contained by Lindsey. Once she started getting a big head, she started ad-libbing, like in this song, and every song suffered for it. Like in this one, she changed the words to the song ... to some alternate reality version she imagined in her head 1 day. You can't do that. People want to sing along with you when they go see you in a concert. She had her chance to write her songs BEFORE she put them out, but after they are well-known, well ... she should not have done that. What put them ALL on the map was Lindsey and his musical direction. In fact, he resurrected the entire group from their pending demise, and brought them a lifetime of fame and fortune. Some of Stevie's most iconic and notable songs were voted out by the group for being so mono-directional, lackluster and boring ... that is, until Lindsey rewrote and/or rearranged them. He IS what made her !!! So, to thank him ... she slept with everyone she could, including Mick Fleetwood ... and still, Lindsey didn't give up on the group. Kudos to him and evil eye daggers to her ... from me. I lost my admiration for her when she made her first solo recording. About 6 months afterwards, while I was living in Oakland, I heard her on an interview at a local (San Jose, I believe) radio station, and she had a couple of hits on the air at the time. The interviewer asked her something about, "how hard it was to write hit records" and she responded by saying it was simple, and that she could write a hit record every 6 months. I started seeing her in a different light ... for what she really was ... an opportunist who would take everything she could from everyone and then spit them out like a was of spent chewing gum. I loved all the recorded concerts that I have seen of theirs since, but every time she starts ad-libbing to songs that people love and want to sing to, it makes my skin crawl. I can't figure out if she just doesn't remember all the words or if she does it on purpose to piss Lindsey off. Either way, it pissed me off. Again, I have nothing against YOUR opinion, and in fact, I appreciate and welcome you to it, but I'm sorry ... I'm just not a fan of hers. I hope you can appreciate that too.

@@bobbybobbatunday9959 ... the specific accusation about ad-libbing that I was addressing was that she changed the lyrics to ones she made up in her head one day. That's objectively untrue; the changed version was the Fleetwood Mac studio version and this is reverting back to the original lyrics of the song. Of course ad-libbing can refer to more than changing the lyrics, but that's not what I was addressing. Personally I think the vocal ad-libbing here is what makes this live version great, but now we're just discussing opinions, which is of no use to anyone.

Did Andy say, "peace?" Love that. Let's just put this out there. #1 Women lead singer: It is either Nancy Wilson or Stevie Nicks. That was just an incredible performance. You have to grade it as a performance. Record is always going to be different. I don't know how you can't go S-tier on this.

As far as live performances go, this is one of my top favorites, second only to Queen's "Somebody to Love" Live in Montreal 1981. If you want to see Lindsey go to town on the guitar, see their live version from their "The Dance" concert of his, "You Can Go Your Own Way". It's phenomenal.

Why would you do about 10 Fleetwood Mac songs and not a single one by Christine McVie? Anybody else have this question? All the Nicks drama queen whining is so yesterday after a few songs. 😃

For another live performance, do a search for "Fleetwood Mac - Angel (Live in St Louis, Nov 1979)". Not one of their big hits, but I love the performance, which really gets electric when Lindsey joins her in the middle of the stage.

How could they have done it better? The 1997 version from "The Dance" TV special. I was sooo hoping this would be it. Much better sound mix. Captures all the atmosphere and production of the studio version and then some! You guys are missing out not catching more of Fleetwood Mac live in the later years. Their Live performances only got better and classier with age.

Rhiannon is definitely better watching live as you can see Stevie's passion . All bands are better watching live imo....10 out of 10 . The studio audience was seated which is not the best like the Deeple Purple Child in Time audience . Watch other live versions and it makes the album versions seem too 'correct'. Which of course they are supposed to be.

Stevie Nicks best friend had died around 70s/80s, so she had thought that marrying her widowed husband was the best thing to do for her friend. She later admitted in regretting the decision and stating it was a bizarre decision as the marriage was short, and she stated that she is forever married to her music not long from her previous relationships (Buckingham and Fleetwood included).

These guys are famous for many things, their Rock n Roll life style just being one of them. But if any band lived that style to the absolute edge and even beyond... then its Fleetwood Mac. I cant recall who exactly said it but he said something like : "you know, with all these famous rock bands you heard about, them doing lots of drugs and destroying hotel rooms and such" "well those are the excessive stories, the things that happened maybe once or twice but get remembered today" "Fleetwood Mac on the other hand... everything you heard is pretty much true and that is only the tip of the ice berg, these guys ARE rock n roll". Watch a few interviews with drummer Mick Fleetwood, a giant of a man (literally), he has great stories to tell... that is.. the stories he remembers, he readily admits he lost a few decades due to substance abuse, and does it with a smile and a joke ;) Thnx for the react guys, Fleetwood Mac is more than a band, its a story on its own.

@@robertmeyer2102 it would have to be a TV series. Starting with Peter Green, LSD and subsequent breakdown + the shotgun scene, then Jeremy Spencer and the cult. After the first series, then you can get to this lot. Too much for even a 3 hour movie. Spinal Tap wouldn't compare.
