This is fantastic way to create consistant material ID manually, for those render tools, like Enscape and Lumion, the material ID color generated along with the render, vary from models to models even if you apply the same material.

Neat! Only issue is that this doesn't work for Grasshopper preview.

I tried it today but affter placing both the render and captured view in photoshop, they don't align a 100%, even though the images are the same size. Any ideas what might be wrong??

Hi Torben, this can sometimes happens even though the images are set to the same size. You can usually fix this by setting the render output and material id capture to 'lock to viewport aspect ratio' which should make them match up

Is there a way to export from Rhino in fbx/obj format with Material ID? To be used in software like substance painter.

Yes you can export models from Rhino as obj format and retain material ID - I have a video on Rhino to Blender that goes through this process and could be applied to substance painter: kzitem.info/news/bejne/l4dpq4mYspOcZ2U
