instead of using smash use CreateUVCrv* and 1-ApplyCrv command if you don't care about history update or 2-use PlanarSrf on the result of CreateUVCrv to make base surface and then use FlowAlongSrf. *smash command gives you those distorted boundaries but CreateUVCrv make perfect rectangle that is easy to work with. 28:28 in this case follow this path: explode polysurface then use MergeSrf one by one to make a one piece surface from parts, and the use CreateUVCrv and then 1-or2- 👆🏻

For sure, thanks for your suggestion! The video was intended for 2nd-year students first learning some of the curve/surface functions in Rhino, so it is a bit "quick and dirty" and not precise. Maybe I'll try your method and make a video about it sometime!

Thanks for the amazing video! I was wondering is there a way to make complex loft curves have a thickness?

NS Studio do you mean to pipe the curves? Or to give a complex loft surface thickness?

Hi there how do you unroll a surface of let's say a 3D scanned arm? I have reduced mesh, contoured it, and network surfaced it to rebuild it. My end goal is to project a 3D extruded design that wraps around the arm, I've tried flow along srf but it just doesn't come out as expected. how would you advise me to approach this?

hi, after flowalongsrf i am unable to split the surface,please help
@LeeSuHuang
5 жыл бұрын
It really depends on your curves and the geometry. You can try rebuilding both surfaces to a higher isocurve density to ensure that it can handle all the splitting required. Otherwise if the problem persists, you can try extruding the curves a little bit in both directions, and using the extruded surfaces as the splitting geometry.

Try turning on different options in your object snap options, it should allow you to snap to vertex when in distance measure mode.

Yup, that's to prevent excessive distortion. Smash may get you some part of the way but be aware there is going to be inaccuracies.

Stuart Hearn that really just depends on how you draw it, since that is not the topic of this video meant for beginners I don't get into that. Regarding Rhino or any other CAD program, they have all slowly evolved but the principles of geometry and using tools intelligently hasn't changed. Nor has the issue of user error and uninformed opinions.

Stuart Hearn it is, however you can judge for yourself since it tells you how much it distorts. For some more flexible materials or lower tolerance constructs that may be just fine.
