Hi Peter. I'd just like to say that I, and probably many others, watch these videos precisely because you are not an expert. Not only that but, you tend not to research the pens you get extensively instead preferring to jump right in and get your hands dirty. That might sound like a backhanded compliment but that kind of blank-slate "purity" is something that's rare and unique in this internet-dominated world.(Though please do be careful, I was a little nervous when you started sniffing that vintage Quink in an earlier video) You bring fresh eyes to the table. Your opinions are shaped only by first-hand experience. That level of genuineness is something "experts" can't offer no matter how sincerely they try to be impartial. Those of us who are deeply steeped in the enthusiast community will inevitably have our opinions colored by the things we read and popular opinions that we hear. And tbh, if I wanted a review from an "expert" there are at least half a dozen other channels I could have gone to, but what you do is one of a kind. "opposites attract" as they say. I am here not in spite of but because of the fact that you are not "one of us". I am here because I am seeking a perspective different from my own, and from the echo chamber I am used to.

The Glistening part of the converse ink that you used really depends on the paper that you use. I suggest using Rhodia or Tomoe River paper. That is mostly because of the paper

So, as George Clinton would say, you're "up for the downstroke," with this pen. I must say though, from the color of the inks they sent you, I would have thought that your detailed hand would do something to emphasize either or both grass or mucous/boogers, because the colors would seem to lend themselves so well. And as for your new personal calligraphy style, like any good calligraphy it is almost completely indecipherable! Keep up the good work!

Ahoy mr Draws, The rhodium coating is for wear resistance. Rhodium is 6 on the Moh hardness scale while 14k gold is 3.5. (Steel is 4.5 for reference). I know less about fountain pens than you, but I've bought a muji pen and started unashamedly copying your drawing style :D
@MFKR696
4 жыл бұрын
If corrosion resistance is the goal, using Rhodium plated Gold is the "more money than brains" approach. The fact that they used 14K instead of 99.9% says it all. The corrosion-resistant properties of Gold go right out the window when you alloy it with other cheaper metals like Tin and Zinc. 14k is nothing more than fancy looking Pot-Metal.

I got one, and found its flex to be really disappointing. I had it spencerian ground, and it was still a little disappointing. The pressure required to flex is really high. I do like it, but if someone wanted a flexible nib, the elabo/falcon is absolutely not the one to buy. For a modern flex nib pen, the pilot 912 or 742 or 823 with their FA nib is the way to go before you get something custom made. Color verse inks are also a pretty bad deal. Very expensive, badly designed box, lots of their inks are two bottles of one color, and performance is kinda meh. Almost every color they have that I have tried has been very prone to feathering and smudging, so I'd wager the paper was fine, the jnk just wasn't great. Glitter ink bottles need to be shaken just like you did. They just need broader or wetter nibs than the pilot uses. I'm never going to buy from jetpens again. They have absolutely appalling customer service. I'm glad they sent you a nice pen, but they go out of their way to screw over customers in ways I've never seen in other businesses. I returned one product because it was faulty. Included a full page writing sample showing the skips and hard starts, emails with pictures of the baby's bottom, a page of good writing with a known good pilot stub, and when I decided to just toss on a $10 pilot kakuno to an order several months later, I was informed that i can buy pilot products from them, but because of one, single instance where I returned a pen because it was defective "and we couldn't recreate the problem" that I was forever banned from being allowed to return a pilot product to them, no matter if it was faulty. Such a petty, pathetic business move. Goulet has flat out GIVEN me a $90 pen case, totally unsolicited, when I had problems with a visconti. I have since repaid that generosity several times over as a customer because they stood behind me. Jetpens is awful, and I would recommend everyone avoid them like the damn plague because they dont give a rat's ass about good customer service

It is not a flex nib but a soft nib. The SE on the nib means soft extra fine. The SE nib flexes more than the SF (fine) or up. It can provide more line variation than an average nib, but isn't meant to be forced into flexing too much. Because it can get so fine, it has been a popular art pen.
