Met a guy while backpacking to a lake in California that was about 10 miles. We talked for an hour about past adventures and that he has two sons that are ahead on the trail. Ended up asking his age because I assumed he was maybe 40-45. The dude was 67.. I was shocked and asked what’s his secret and he just simply said I hike a lot, surf, eat as healthy as I can and just normal activities. A true inspiration of a man that I hope to be and look like at almost 70.. So yes be as active as can be any chance you get!

@@-sensibleChrisThat is so true. I would not care they are degrading themselves if it were not dangerous. For example Villanueva State Park New Mexico: someone reported the main trail as "great" on the AllTrails app the day before I showed up. At the end of the trail I found it had completely caved into the river. So to get back to camp I had to either reverse the whoke thing or cross the Pecos River. Chose the river since luckily it was a low level year. Went straight to the rangers office: they had no idea!!! Because people lie! BTW I am nearing mid 70s. Hiking and photography is all I do, full time last 3.5 years, I hike or run every day. Training is magic. Limiting factor: fear of hights (Colorado sometimes ex. Longs Peak). Feeling stronger than when I was 30. 20 miles in the CO mountains is no big deal. Of course I am very often alone on trails (with bears though). I have the pics to prove it all 😂 but obviously I do that all for myself. Start hikes EARLY...in case of unknown trail obstacles😂

All my life, I believed this to be true, and I preach and teach it today too, because exercise and movement provide so many benefits at every level - physically, mentally and emotionally. I would die without it. It not only allows me to see the world in a better way, it empowers me, it helps me to do the things I want to do, and it is incredibly healthy for my self-development to be a better person. It’s not just about the obvious benefits of building a strong and resilient body, especially as we age, but also about being capable, free, independent and owning your life. It is the best thing you can do for your overall health and wellbeing. And as a 51 year old woman looking at the world, I really fear for the younger generations because they are not going to be well when they reach my age unless they start prioritizing exercise now. People say I’m lucky. I say “no, I made time for my fitness and health ever since I was a kid.” My health is evolved from my behaviour and habitual choices. I chose to make exercise a habit. Best thing I could have done for myself. 😊

I don't think it's only about how you look, but how strong your body will be as you age. If there is no physical activity you will eventually not be able to even stand up and walk without a cane since your muscles will be weak and won't be able to hold you up 😔 To be independent in old age you need to start at least walking and doing some moderate exercise, you know what they say if you don't use it you lose it 😔

That's the second best thing you can do for your life. The First best thing you can do for yourself is to stay away from ultra processed foods, limiting your plant consumption and eat more beef, eggs and butter.

A healthy dietary intake is more important than exercise.

What a healthy diet is for you likely depends on whether you exercise. For example, simple carbs are a big no-no for a sedentary person, but for someone active, they can give him a better work-out and in this way actually be beneficial.

I think they go hand in hand. An optimal diet begets energy and prompts you to move. At least that’s my story. Plants for the win.

I think consciously eating a healthy diet will likely lead to a more physical lifestyle. I don't think being physically active necessarily leads to eating healthy. I think too many times a ball game's conclusion leads to beer and wings or a day laying block ends with a six pack.

@@jb_1971I agree, on a healthy diet we just may want to exercise. Food first to give us fuel to exercise.

No exercise is needed to actually reduce weight, just less calories than expended. So it makes sense that exercise will expend more calories. And those becoming slimmer may feel more energetic.

WRONG !! Fasting is better ...so pls don't say nothing is more than exercise
@untonsured

Wrong. Fasting can lead to muscle loss which can compound its precipitous loss after the age of 30. Muscle starts to turn to fat as we get older and muscle burns calories whereas fat doesn't. Moreover, low muscle has been associated with higher mortality because old people with low muscle are weak and more prone to falling which shortens lifespan and healthspan.

@@untonsuredfasting doesn’t mean you have to lose muscle over the medium term. All bodybuilders go through a fasting / calorie restriction phase after every bulk cycle to cut the fat. Of course they lose some muscle in the short term, but the art is to minimise that while getting under 5% body fat
@untonsured

@@StigFerrari yes of course. Done properly and with informed scientific knowledge it's probably ok. Yet that seems to be for aesthetic purposes. Maybe there are some benefits to fasting in terms of health but they have to be weighed against other factors. Peter Attia changed his mind about fasting and he's probably a lot smarter and more informed than you or I. Also, having certain amount of fat is actually arguably healthy and actually gives you more strength... as well as added stability around the core if you want to say compare strength athletes to bodybuilders.

my advice is do a daily prayer like divine mercy chaplet or rosary........ exercise only make your body healthy while prayers makes your soul strong.. its better to have a strong soul than a strong body trust me
