Ric Flair wrestled in Puerto Rico and in the Dominican Republic, Ric Flair beat a bunch of Puerto Rican wrestlers and Ric Flair beat a bunch of Dominican wrestlers and Ric Flair also beat a bunch of American wrestlers while wrestling in those islands and he agreed to retain his NWA world championship while dropping the matches to Carlos Colon, Jack Veneno and Victor Jovica. Years earlier Carlos Colon, Jack Veneno and Victor Jovica all came to wrestle in the United States and lost world title matches to Jerry The King Lawler. Lawler was not a big wrestling star worldwide like Ric Flair was so Jerry Lawler used to import wrestlers to his territory and beat them including Ric Flair who used to drop the match to Lawler and Flair would always retain his world heavyweight championship. Jack Veneno did the same thing that Jerry Lawler did when he wrestled Ric Flair because that's how the NWA set it up and that's why Ric Flair to this day is a beloved rule breaker in the Dominican Republic, Trinidad and Puerto Rico. Ric Flair is a huge part of the sports history of those islands and Ric Flair did it and still retained his NWA world championship every time! Now that's a real world champion right there!

They were two matches between Ric Flair vs Jack Veneno, the first one for the NWA world title and the vacant Dominican heavyweight championship then known as the NWA Intercontinental championship, the match was a time limit draw that should have been a disqualification win for Veneno because he had Ric Flair in the sleeper hold but Veneno's chief rival the legendary rule breaker Relampago Hernandez attacked Jack Veneno before he could get Flair's arm to go down three times so that's how Flair defended his NWA championship mandatory against Jack Veneno. The rematch between Ric Flair and Jack Veneno happened months later and was 2 out of 3 falls for the just the vacant NWA Intercontinental championship and not for Ric Flair's NWA world championship. It was two out of three falls and Flair was supposed to win the first due to Rowdy Piper's interference and Veneno was supposed to win the next two so Veneno could finally become the NWA Intercontinental champion aka the Dominican wrestling world champion. Veneno did not win the championship in first match because NWA rules did not allow him to win a championship with a time limit draw or with a disqualification so they had the rematch but the first pin was supposed to go to Ric Flair over Veneno thanks to Piper but the Dominican police thought the fight was real and did not let Piper do his job so Flair and Veneno decided to have Veneno pin Flair during the first fall instead and end the match with one fall. The NWA officials finally declared Veneno the winner of the Dominican wrestling world championship and Flair was able to retain his NWA world championship which was not on the line while making the local guy Veneno look good in front of his fans in his territory. Job well done Nature Boy Ric Flair! Jack Veneno is a very nice man and has tried to explain this to the Dominican Republic media for over 30 years but due to the media's lack of wrestling knowledge they think he beat Ric Flair for the WWE world championship because that's the only promotion they know or they think he beat Flair for NWA world championship because the older people in the media remember Veneno wrestling for the NWA back then in the Dominican Republic. Both are wrong. Veneno won the NWA Intercontinental championship against Flair and just like Colon won the WWC Universal championship against Flair. Ric Flair retained his NWA world championship every time while putting over the local babyface in each of the territories he wrestled. That's why Ric Flair was more popular worldwide than John Cena and a better wrestler all time because the territories truly made Ric Flair wrestling's real world champion!

@@jojst1 Jack Veneno still owns the NWA Intercontinental heavyweight championship it's the only NWA heavyweight championship he ever won but he also owns a few other championship belts that he won in other weight classes and in other wrestling promotions that he had worked in before that. The NWA Intercontinental championship is the one he won against Flair. Veneno and Flair fought for the NWA world heavyweight championship in the first match which ended in a time limit draw that was verified by the NWA, Ric Flair and Jack Veneno. So Flair defended the belt while making the babyface look good. I used to owns hundreds of VHS tapes of wrestling from Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Mexico and Japan. I had thousands of hours of matches and interviews that I bought from wrestling fans through mail order from old wrestling magazines but I sold them on Ebay about 20 years ago. They are old wrestling magazines on Ebay that show photos of Jack Veneno wrestling at many events in the United States and Puerto Rico. They are old wrestling magazines that show Ric Flair wrestling all over the world and appearing in wrestling TV shows in many different countries. Ric Flair always made the local hero of the territory look good while retaining the NWA world heavyweight championship. The same thing happened in his match with Jack Veneno. Flair made the local babyface Veneno look good and retained his championship because the bell rang before Flair's hand went down which Jack Veneno has said about a million times on Dominican Republic television. Jack Veneno said that's how they planned it but the match was such a box office success that they had a rematch and where Jack Veneno won the NWA Intercontinental championship later known as the Dominican Republic wrestling world championship. I am bilingual and I had hundreds of hours of video from WWC Puerto Rico and Dominicana De Espectaculos in Dominican Republic when both these were territories of the NWA . Ric Flair and Jack Veneno both wrestled in these territories back in the 80s. I remember the storylines. If you speak Spanish go the Facebook page Lucha Libre Republica Dominicana and hundreds of Dominican wrestling fans from those years will tell you the same thing. We remember the matches and the storylines but it's very hard to find videos of those wrestling shows and of those matches until someone with a VHS tape converts it into a DVD and then shares it digitally online.

@@jojst1 The information I gave were the storylines and interviews of NWA Dominicana De Espectaculos and DWE Dominican Wrestling Entertainment from interviews with Jack Veneno and Carlos Colon regarding their matches with the Nature Boy Ric Flair in WWC wrestling aswell as Jack Veneno interviews regarding his matches with Ric Flair in his interviews with Univision in the United States, Telemundo in the United States, Colorvision in the Dominican Republic and Radio Television Dominicana in the Dominican Republic aswell as his interviews regarding these matches with the Dominican Republic newspapers Listin Diario and Hoy. Ric Flair also has confirmed in many interviews that he worked two events in the Dominican Republic with Jack Veneno and that they agreed on the results but that they had to improvise in the 2nd match due to the military police officer drawing his weapon because back then most people believed the wrestling results were real.

@@jojst1 The date of the rematch was August, 25th 1982 that's been verified by other matches that took place on the undercard being shown on KZitem and on the internet. Jack Veneno has pictures of him modeling the NWA world heavyweight championship before his rematch with Ric Flair so the NWA could create a similar belt for him to win in his rematch with Flair. After the match they are several pictures of Jack Veneno modeling his NWA Intercontinental championship and their are several pictures of Ric Flair still wearing the NWA world heavyweight championship which he took to Trinidad in his next series of championship title matches. Also in Trinidad Ric Flair fought against Victor Jovica in a couple of championship matches that were exactly like his matches with Jack Veneno and Carlos Colon. I used to own the VHS tapes of all those wrestling matches which I have seen hundreds of times before I sold them on Ebay for a nice profit. I myself had purchased the tapes through correspondence with wrestling fans from around the world that sold them in various wrestling magazines. Everything I have told you has been documented for years now by the international wrestling media.

Wrestling has started to become very popular again in the Dominican Republic. Carlos Colon still owns the WWC Puerto Rico promotion in Puerto Rico and the legendary Dominican wrestler El Bronco owns the WWC Dominican Republic promotion in the Dominican Republic. WWE has done two sell out shows on the island once in the 2000s and another one in the 2010s. WWC Dominican Republic has huge crowds and lots of popular American, Canadian and Mexican wrestlers wrestle for that promotion in the Dominican Republic including Carlito Carribean Cool Colon, Kaitlyn, Chris Masters, MVP, Nunzio and the Full Blooded Italians, Caristico the orginal Sin Cara in WWE, Sean Seaman, etc.

Ric Flair left his NWA world championship in the Dominican Republic after his first match with Jack Veneno was a time limit draw. They are pictures of Jack Veneno wearing the NWA world championship for the NWA officials so they could create a championship that fit Veneno's waist. The NWA created the NWA Intercontinental championship belt for Jack Veneno and that belt looked almost like the NWA world championship except the belt had words Intercontinental champion written on it instead of the words world champion like the NWA world championship has. The NWA created the vacant NWA Intercontinental championship that Jack Veneno won in his rematch with Ric Flair. After Jack Veneno's promotion stopped being a part of the NWA the NWA Intercontinental championship was called the Dominican wrestling world championship but they still used the same NWA Intercontinental championship belt that Jack Veneno won in his rematch with Ric Flair. That's why Jack Veneno gave Ric Flair his NWA world championship after their rematch. The NWA and Jack Veneno never wanted to win Ric Flair's NWA world championship but they did want to create an important championship for Jack Veneno in the Dominican Republic just like Carlos Colon had in Puerto Rico and they did that with the vacant NWA Intercontinental championship that Jack Veneno won in the rematch. Jack Veneno says he paid the NWA fees for years to have that NWA Intercontinental championship in his promotion but after his promotion stopped being part of the NWA he got to keep that belt and not have to pay any fees because his promotion renamed it the Dominican wrestling world championship instead of calling it the NWA Intercontinental championship. Jack Veneno still wears that NWA Intercontinental championship when he makes public appearances in the Dominican Republic.

If I'm not mistaken. Ric was supposed to defend the NWA Title against Roddy in Toronto just after this trip.. Roddy never made the flight connection and Ric ended up working with Terry Funk that night. They announced that night , the next card in two weeks time WOULD be Ric Flair against Roddy Piper for the title. The two weeks of interviews on Maple Leaf Wrestling were classic from both of them... Roddy finally letting it slip after years of reading that he indeed spent ALOT of time growing up in Parkdale.. Sitting in a chair with a trophy taller then he was sitting down, talking about Flair ...How did you get the name Nature Boy.....uh Flair?? What you do... Walk through the woods naked calling owls???? FANTASTIC mini angle during Flairs first run. Toronto was always split between the two . One night they "met" on the street outside of the Westbury Hotel (where the wrestlers stayed). The wrestlers by then all knew fans would line the street for when wrestlers would walk Wood Street to the MLG entrance. They did a great job one night for all of us that used to meet them during their walk. They had security help.. Flair walks out first in a three piece suit styling and profiling signing autographs and taking pictures with people . He only got to the street and out walks Piper in jeans and Jean jacket and they proceed to promo each other down the entire street with security ( keeping them apart) on each side of the street. It wasn't on any TV or news or anything.. The two of them did it for the few hundred that were always out there every other Sunday night in every type of weather. Flair and Piper from those days was the best !!! Thanks Ric

Santo Domingo needs a popular wrestling promotion like it had with the NWA Dominicana De Espectaculos wrestling promotion. It would be great to see Dominican wrestlers on TV again wrestling with the best wrestlers from Japan, Mexico, the United States and Puerto Rico. These kinds of matches happen every few years but not on TV on a weekly basis like they did back then. Since Ric Flair left Santo Domingo other wrestlers have arrived to wrestle there like Sin Cara Mistico formerly in WWE, Paul Roma, Big Van Vader, Razor Ramon Scott Hall, the Ultimate Warrior, Carlito Caribbean Cool, Shelton Benjamin and Brian Cage have visited the island and left with amazing victories on Dominican soil but none of them had the impact that Ric Flair had on the island when he wrestled Jack Veneno because Flair was not only just as popular and very well known like those wrestlers but wherever he went he was known the NWA world champion and the very best wrestler in the world and not just by wrestling fans by a large number of different nationalities from around the world. When Ric Flair arrived in town to wrestle anybody anywhere it was automatically a big wrestling event. Ric Flair was like Elvis Presley or Muhammad Ali he was a worldwide celebrity known by people from all around the world regardless whether they watched sports or not. A Ric Flair wrestling match was like Manny Pacquiao or Canelo Alvarez fight is today in boxing. It was a big deal. Mainstream casual fans from around the world knew about it. That's back when Wrestling was Wrestling!

The Stuport I strongly disagree. The greats do not want their records broken. The 1973 Miami Dolphins, for example, have a party every year when every NFL team has a loss, because they want to remain the only undefeated team in history. Of course, no athlete is going to say the truth, they will be classy about it and congratulate someone that breaks their record. Do you you think Michael Jordan actually wants Lebron James to match him with 6 rings? No way, he was probably the happiest person in the world when Golden State swept them this year.

The NWA should have dropped the Caribbean out of its ranks decades before the 80's. Too many non-islander wrestlers were injured by the savages they refer to as "fans" down there. Brody's plotted murder by Colon, Jovica and Gonzalez was the icing on the cake. I'm glad that business died down there in the following years.

Yeah, the NWA Champ had to wrestle the top wrestler of every territory. His job was to go in, make the other guy look good, and barely escape with the belt, usually by either a time-limit draw, or some kind of DQ. And if the other wrestler was a top-notch stud, the matches were usually 60 min. affairs. I miss those days.

Ric Flair and Jack Veneno were all time great wrestlers. Jack Veneno won and lost in some great matches he had in Puerto Rico, United States, Mexico and in his early matches in Dominican Republic. Ric Flair was sent to the Dominican Republic by the NWA to make the local hero Jack Veneno look good so the NWA could popularize the sport. Ric Flair did a great job but Jack Veneno ruined it after his matches with Flair because Veneno started a new wrestling promotion called Raf Sanz Promotions under the NWA that was horrible. In that promotion Jack Veneno never lost to any of the other wrestlers in that promotion and that made it boring for the fans. Jack Veneno's big ego in Raf Sanz Promotions is what ruined wrestling for all the Dominican wrestling fans and that promotion went out of business because it did not have any good storylines and Jack Veneno's refusal to lose to any of the wrestlers on his roster. Wrestling in the Dominican Republic is still very popular but only the international promotions like WWE, WWC, ROH, AAA, AEW and New Japan. Dominican Wrestling promotions have suffered low attendance and low revenue for decades after Jack Veneno's failed Raf Sanz Promotions. When Jack Veneno wrestled Ric Flair it was under the banner of NWA Dominicana De Espectaculos wrestling promotion that used to be owned by Dominican wrestling promoter Vampiro also known as Vampiro Cao when he was a wrestler. Once Vampiro left and he sold the wrestling promotion to Jack Veneno and Jack Veneno eventually changed the name of the promotion and he gradually changed the storylines to make himself the only hero and star of the show and it was this egotistical mistake that eventually put his wrestling promotion out of business. Which is a shame because during the time Jack Veneno wrestled Ric Flair the NWA Dominicana De Espectaculos was the most watched television show in the whole country. They averaged over 4 million viewers a week on an island that had only had 7 million people at the time so three fourths of the population used to watch wrestling religiously back then.

According to Jack Veneno in the first match he had Ric Flair in a sleeper hold but before Ric Flair's arm went down three times the bell rang and it was a draw even though the paying crowd thought Vemeno had won it. That is the scenario that Veneno planned with Flair but the great Dominican rule breaker Relampago Hernandez entered the ring after the bell rang and after Flair's arm went down. Relampago Hernandez attacked Jack Veneno with the Dominican flag causing the fans to think Jack Veneno won the match by disqualification and that the bell rang to disqualify Flair because his rule breaker friend Hernandez attacked Veneno before the match was over. According to NWA rules you cannot have a championship won by a draw or a disqualification so that bout retained the championship for Flair, the Dominican NWA TV announcers claimed a victory for Veneno in the first match but Veneno owned the company and he had officially declared the match was a draw because his instructions the time limit to run out before Flair's hand went down for a third time making it a draw and creating the need for a big bucks rematch and another sell out crowd. In the rematch Flair had Veneno rolled up for an inside cradle win but Veneno reversed due to them agreeing to end the match right then instead of it being 2 out of three falls where Flair was supposed to inside cradle Veneno after Piper's trip that would have enabled Flair to roll him up and pin Veneno cleanly then Flair was going to drop the match to Veneno who would have pinned Flair and been declared the Dominican wrestling world heavyweight champion and Flair would leave the country still the NWA world champion since the were wrestling for the NWA Intercontinental championship later known as simply the Dominican wrestling world championship after Veneno's promotion stopped working for the NWA. This was the same thing that Carlos Colon and Ric Flair did in Puerto Rico the Dominican matches with Veneno were copies of the matches Flair had with Colon and something that the NWA world champion did in every territory. It was the same thing just in a different place with a different audience and at that time the NWA was the biggest sports promotion in the planet Earth. They had territories in every continent on Earth and sell out crowds like that all over the world so every country Flair would defend his belt in had large crowds of people with a local hero just like Jack Veneno ready to challenge Ric Flair. It was a big money maker and the NWA was the winner!

The NWA still exists. Ric Flair beat more great world champions than anybody. Ric Flair wrestled in WWC, and used to beat a bunch of Dominican wrestlers and he used to beat a bunch of Puerto Rican wrestlers so he was known as the Latino killer and he put over Colon and Veneno in their territory. Veneno and Colon both came to America and lost to Lawler for his championship in different matches and they did not complain because the money was great. Ric Fair not only beat the best wrestlers in the world but he could put over a wrestler and instantly make that wrestler a star. Ric Flair did that with Shawn Michaels, Sting, Carlos Colon, Jack Veneno and Victor Jovica. Victor Jovica also came to the United States and lost to Jerry Lawler but Lawler could not put anyone over but Ric Flair was the better wrestler and the bigger star. Lawler finally put over Bret Hart and Rick Martel but it was Ric Flair that was the NWA world champion and WWE world champion both many times and not Jerry Lawler because a great knows how to win the championships and retain his championship while putting over the star of the territory they are in and Ric Flair did that. That is why Ric Flair is in the Hall Of Fame. Jerry Lawler was great also but not considered the best ever like Ric Flair because Flair made legends out of the wrestlers he wrestled just by having many historically great matches with them!

Flair's record extends beyond 16,so Cena has still got some ways to go yet before he even ties the record let alone break it. Its high time Flair sets the record straight once and for all and tell the world that his record of world title reigns is in fact 24 world title reigns altogether and that these title reigns are all confirmed, validated and counted for in the record books. You don't go by what some website puts up,some magazine prints or what Vince McMahon and his yes men says it is because they're all lying to you because they all want John Cena to tie then break the record of which is okay with me but he's not going to tie it at 16 nor will he break it at 17. In order for John Cena to tie Flair's record he would have to reach 24 world/ WWE heavyweight title reigns and then win it one more time to break it at 25. Sorry Cena fans but that's just how it is.,if you're going to go for a record then at least be honest about it.
