Yep, at the time, fans like me had no idea that he was wrestling with such a traumatic injury. It's only years later that I started seeing that story on newsgroups, and people wondered was it just rumours. When it was confirmed as truth for all us fans, we were shocked. What an athlete to have been able to continue to perform at that level. One of the most tragic stories in wrestling history. As high school kids, we wished we could be like the Von Erichs. Such incredible highs, and unbelievable lows...

Man Dave and Kerry were awesome but when I was growing up though Kevin was my favorite, flying around like a crazy man in his bare feet doing stuff that you didn't really see in American wrestling at that time was awesome. All three of them were fantastic though and they each had their own styles, R.I.P to all the Von Erich sons, you live on in the hearts of fans and you're all missed ✝️

I was at a Thursday night football game in Minnesota at the metrodome in 1994-1995 and Ric was on the sidelines close to the seats. I ran down and leaned over the railing and yelled Mr. Flair can I shake your hand. He walked right up and put his hand out and I told him that he was my favorite wrestle ever which he is. He smiled and said thanks a lot pal. 100% pure class and the GOAT!! Love you Ric.

Great story, man. Ric Flair seems like a good guy in real life and I'm glad you got the chance to meet him. I'm 32 soon to be 33 years old and I saw The Iron Claw the other day and loved it so I've been on a wrestling history binge these past couple of days. To my shame I had no idea about the Von Erich family or their story going into the film, but the fact that Ric Flair features in it had me hyped (whoever plays him in the film portrayed him excellently, by the way). I grew up in the late 90's/early 2000's watching the likes of Hulk Hogan, Goldberg, Sting, Kevin Nash, Kane, The Undertaker, Booker T and the legendary Ric Flair....Woooooo! 😂 Also, please check out The Wrestler and Foxcatcher as well. All fantastic wrestling films.

I saw a match on television, Flair vs. Kevin from Reunion Arena or one of the other buildings that World Class used and Kevin reverse pressed Flair, got the three count and, for a minute, I thought I saw the NWA World Title change hands, which was rare to see on television and then they reversed the decision based on a technicality, and that got me hooked. I tuned to WCCW every week for five years.

I never knew that Kerry had lost his foot until after he died, but I did notice a difference in the way he moved in the ring after his accident. I never guessed that he had lost his foot, but I thought that he walked and moved differently because of the motorcycle accident. I think I thought that it had something to do with his ankle. (It was 30+ years ago and I was a teen so I don't remember exactly what I thought was different, but I know that I didn't guess that he had a prosthetic foot.)

Being NWA members, Crockett and Fritz should have had Pay per Views with the Von Erichs vs. Crockett's heels. Especially since Kerry and Flair had such a big interest in their feud. It could have elevated both promotions and kept the cartoon king at bay a little longer. Crockett's roster was so big that they could have had several main event caliber matches on a single PPV.

For those of us who saw and witnessed Carry Von Erick in that Dallas saw a man in trouble yrs before he took his own life. The alcohol and drugs were a big part of the Von Ericks wrestling life, and Carry had a huge problem with both and it had taken over everything he was and did in his life. His arrogant attitude and life style was one of just go fast and live faster which ultimately led to his suicide. I watched the Von Erick family all my life and the Father was the driving force and he watch 4 of his boys die 1 by Heartache and 3 by suicide and it was sad to watch

After 1986 lots of wrestling territories were either shutting down or disbanding from the NWA, as basically the Jim Crockett promotion was the only NWA promotion that was fighting Vince's WWF national expansion. Also Fritz's bad decisions, such as making fans believe that Lance Von Erich was part of the family when lots of WCCW fans knew that he really wasn't a real Von Erich, and Fritz's heart attack angle, took a really bad toll on the promotion.
