NWA was a far superior product to WWF at this time. Early 80's WWF was not strong. Weaker than the 70's. Later yrs of Backlund's reign had him wrestling one of the moondogs or a wild samoan at house shows for the title. I was there for a few. Pretty bad few yrs til Hogan, Piper and other big names brought in lifted it all up.

Quite simply put, they knew that Ric Flair was The Man! Bob Backline only held the WWF Championship Belt 2 times. Once, he held it for a long time, losing it to The Sheikh, who then lost it to Hulk Hogan in 1984, I believe. The second time he won the WWF Championship Belt, he won it from Bret "The Hitman" Hart, only to lose it to Diesel a week or two later...and Diesel beat him convincingly...in only 8 seconds! Ric Flair, on the other hand, by hook or by crook, won the NWA/WCW Heavyweight Championship Belt 14 times, and won the WWE Heavyweight Championship Belt 2 times, for a total of 16 times! He's one of the most decorated Wrestlers of all time! Bob Backlund became an afterthought after late 1994. As any Lawyer would say:"I rest my case". Woooooo!!!!!!!!!!

I've got news for Ric Flair. When Hogan wrestled in Florida he wrestled and beat Harley Race for the NWA World Heavyweight title but it was given back to Race on a technicality. Hogan said he can take the title anytime he liked. Hulk did the same to Nick Bockwinkle in the AWA. He won the World Heavyweight title twice from Bockwinkle only for the title to be handed back to Bockwinkle on technicalities. Hulk still knew he would be the greatest champion that ever lived. Hulk was also the first IWGP Champion of Japan. Hulk knocked out Japanese legend Antonio Inoki to take the belt. Hulk soon won the WWF World Heavyweight title and was still IWGP Heavyweight Champion at the time making Hulk a double World Champion. Hogan was born to be "THE MAN" and Flair was going to have to settle for second fiddle.

Hogan couldn’t wrestle his way out of a paper bag! My grandmother can do a freaking foot to face and leg drop better than hogan. Hogan was all built up in WWF for entertainment and promos. His in the ring skills sucked! Hogan was all about hogan. Ric Flair was great because of everything.. promos, in ring wrestling, and not ashamed to loose to put other wrestlers over. Ric Flair made wrestling and many other wrestlers what they were. Ric Flair did what was best for business more than what he did for himself! Ric Flair was the greatest professional wrestler of all time! I’ll put Arn Anderson, Paul Orndorff, And Sting up there with him as well!
