Thanks for the tips! I love using my Instant Pot when cooking rice, I put equal parts water to rice and it comes out fluffy and perfect! Very fool proof for me 😅

In my experience (and I cook rice every day), the finger method works for some white rices, but not all. Different brands vary and the age of the rice also has a bearing. When I buy a new bag (even a brand I have used before - even the same brand can vary), I use the finger method the first time. On subsequent cookings, I often have to adjust up or down to get the result I'm looking for.

Hi, This afternoon, I prepared the Fried rice recipe you shared and my husband approved!! I added leftover chicken, red onions and frozen mixed vegetables. Thank you so much for sharing your techniques and tips on all of your delicious recipe. Watching your videos and listening to you explain how to prepare the meals, it reminded when me when I was a teenager, my step-mom use to do the same. Thanks again

This is very helpful for me, I can never get my rice right in a rice cooker, I think it is because I don't use the cup it came with or rinse the rice lol But I can make pretty good steamed rice on the stove. Lol

My rice cooker is inexpensive with a glass lid which always bubbled over through the steam hole. [A real mess] Since rinsing and still using the 2-line in the pot, no overflow and perfect rice. Because of the lid, easy storage after cooling. Thanks again. 💚💙😎

I was taught to cook white rice with the good ol' caldero so I find rice cookers make rice too mushy and sticky.
@veevee111
4 жыл бұрын
@Alma Guillot, if you get a rice cooker, start off by making small amounts of rice so that you may acclimate and learn your cooker's nuances. Gradually, you will get the feel for what is too much water and there's not too much waste. The calderos are made of aluminum and we ingest that black residue we see when we scrub them clean. That stuff leeches into our food. By the way, I make beans, soups, boil pastas and potatoes in my rice cooker. I even warm up my leftovers in there. 🙂

Yes she does, and it's delicious. But not in a cooker .. She toasts the rice and spices in a little oil in a skillet until the rice is lightly coloured, then adds the liquids, tomatoes & veggies and covers. Easy-peasy. Her recipe is my absolute favourite. Check her site; there are two versions as I remember-one updated.

Its very much the same. The 3 things to get right are the amount of water, the heat sitting, and amount of time. So experiment and adjust accordingly.

Dan, I'm with you on your method and measurements. I guess it's personal preference on how wet an individual likes their rice. Also, some rice grains call for more water than others. I've never cooked Korean rice before, though.

isela, I think you are correct, I was thinking the same thing about her finger just being on top of the rice so that the water reached her first knuckle joint.
@NelliG22
4 жыл бұрын
Your finger should be just touching the top of the rice, and the water is at the first knuckle. That's why it matters that the rice level is even across the pot. :)

Once your rice is rinsed you level it out in the pot by kind of shaking the pot a little. Insert your index finger into the rice all the way down until you touch the pot. Pour water into pot until it reaches the first knuckle of your index finger.
