I used to use onion, garlic and ginger juice on my scalp twice a week, however since I started using rice water, green tea and aloe juice as a deep conditioner and I spray on my hair every other day. I have very dense hair, and was looking for retention along with speed...I was definitely not looking for more hair.... but holy moly.... so this new growth is now about an inch at the roots of my hair .... like I said I already have thick hair so I wonder how much thicker it is going g to get...I already get people stopping me to compliment the thickness including my stylist ...she says I have the record in her salon for thickness... we will see....

Black rice follow up! (original suggestion given here to me by Venus de Jesus) : So I went to Trader Joe's and got wild black rice for like $4 a bag. I used only a tiny portion of the bag so I have a ton left, ordered some organic hibiscus leaves, large bag, for around $8 on Amazon.... tons left to do other things with! -I added some mandarin orange peels as well. I let it ferment for about 7 days. Each day when I got home from work I just GENTLY shook my glass bottles of black rice blend around, with caps on. I left the tops off the bottles when not being agitated by me. -I must stress this! Ferments are bubbly and create pressure and they cannot have a top on while fermenting. I used coffee filters to strain off the blend and just have the liquid. Then I soaked my hair well over the tub and still had enough liquid left from two glass water bottles to put some in a spray bottle for later. There was absolutely no bad smell at all! In fact it smelled good enough to drink it! LOL! I let my hair sit overnight and just wrapped a towel around my hair, which was also wrapped in three plastic bags to add some warmth so that the mixture could really seep in my warmed hair and scalp. I rinsed in the morning and it was super easy. My hair feels amazing! It is so strong, supremely bouncy, and it is extra dark, courtesy of the hibiscus. My hair smells so good and all I did once my hair was dry was add a moisture blend, in the form of a cream leave-in conditioner-mosturizer that I usually water down and spritz on my hair. I'll be using this black rice ferment quite regularly! And I must say that my scalp tingled and felt extra great for a whole day after! Thank you Ms. Venus de Jesus for your wonderful info and suggestion to try black rice!

@mightygoodmagic
4 жыл бұрын
@@t.marieking3239 Oh, I use like 2 heaping tablespoons in a smoothie-size glass bottle... I'd say you could use a large mason jar or a 1 liter water bottle...just a bit bigger than a regular water bottle. I use a slightly larger bottle to account for liquid lost duringy filtering it to use. And I just like to leave myself plenty to work with, because it usually takes me two to three days to make (I like to let all the ingredients really sit/ferment well). Hope that helps! ...Now I'm trying out adding a little quinoa to the blend!

I am going to try the rice water this coming week, especially. since you added fenugreek. That fenugreek oil is the biz. I am 10 months into to my first full year of working out, 3 times a week. I now incorporate weight lifting into my routine. I feel great and I’m strong and I look 👁👁 good. Self confident. My hair is growing fast. Henna is my boo 👻 too. 🤣🤣 I also started doing some Keto. I lost almost 10 lbs in a month fashioning Keto around what I will actually do and what works for me. Keto is easier than I thought. Cutting out sugar has shown me how debilitating to your system it can be. I do still have a little sugar for my one cup daily coffee. Otherwise I use SWERVE, sugar substitute. The Yao women you show have such long hair due to their lifestyle and very strict diet. Yes they use rice water in their hair but their village life has much more if an impact on the length of their hair.
@ariesmry
5 жыл бұрын
I want to piggy back off of what you said, because I agree wholeheartedly. The online natural community stays trying to find the miracle products from remote places that’s allows them to grow long hair. I liken this trend to the chebe craze, except because it’s rice, it’s more accessible. I watched the documentary on the cultural practices of the Red Yao women. Their hair is long, but it’s not incredibly thick- they add bundles of their previously cut off hair to make it appear thicker in their style. They grow their hair starting at 6 yrs old and the ONLY time they cut it is at age 18. That’s 12 yrs of growth. Many of the women that they interviewed and showed their length (you can only show your length once married) look to have teenage- grown children, so that’s an even longer time span of hair growth. They live in a village where they catch and grow the majority of their food. They also have access to an unpolluted water source. They indicated that there’s other things they add to their rice water, but they do not share those ingredients with outsiders. Many of the women on KZitem who are making these videos already have long hair and a consistent practice right for *their* hair, which has allowed them to retain growth. Also, please be mindful that straight Asian hair has different properties and needs from highly textured hair. I don’t think their is anything wrong with using rice water- but I do think it’s a placebo effect occurring. You cannot absorb nutrients from dead protein coming out of your body. Your nails and hair can absorb water, but they cannot absorb and convert vitamins. What I suspect is occurring, is that the fermented rice is similar to the effect you get when you use diluted ACV (another fermented liquid) on the hair. If your hair is highly porous- it closes the hair shaft, which allows for light to reflect off of it, giving a shiny appearance. It also makes it easier to detangle because the shaft is not rubbing against other strands. Depending on your overall practices and states of your hair probably has more effect on why it works for some but not for others. Hair growth starts with genetics and physical health. It is the bloodstream that carries nutrients to the follicles. Hair retention starts with consistent, safe hair practices that are *appropriate* for you hair type and state. Water your hair, be gentle with it, be patient with it, and it will retain length. And I feel like this must be said- black women, displaced Africans... you do not need long hair to be considered beautiful. That is an arbitrary beauty standard that did not originate from us culturally. It is understandable to want healthy hair, but it saddens me how much stock we place on long hair, so much so that our ability to contextualize goes out the window. Take care of yourself from the inside out. Love yourself and your hair, not matter what length. Work with your hair, not against it. I wish it wasn’t that deep, but the fact that we concentrate SO MUCH in our hair shows that it is.

Jay2x's , what you say is very true, however, I have tried this trick and it worked, I had to stop because I henna my greys once a month, and my roots were showing too fast.
@ariesmry
5 жыл бұрын
Carine Campier If it works for you, then I no way want to discourage you from using it. I am less concerned about the product and more concerned about the mindset that follows these products. These videos bring out people/anons on the internet who are claiming to have gotten ridiculous growth in very little time. With no proof. Or they have extremely faulty methodology and use it as YT clickbait (like the one KZitemr who measured her already long hair at different points of the shaft to support her claim of fast growth) On the rice water itself, I can possibly understand the shedding/retaining more hair aspect- if there is less friction between the shafts because the cuticles are closed, then there is probably a less occurrence of hair strands snagging on each other. But because there are no control trials (a trial where you measure hair growth using a consistent routine) vs rice water (a trial where *everything* is the same: practices, diet, water intake, overall health, time of yr *except* the rice water) its makes me question the true validity of it actually causing faster growing hair. Growth phases/cycles of the hair has pretty much been validated so I’m curious to know what exactly is it about fermented rice water that suddenly trips up this cycle. Is it like Latisse or Rogain where if you stop using it, all of your hair will shed out as normal (losing all your progress)? I’d be more convinced if someone with severe alopecia, female baldness, or someone who has gone thru chemo we’re to come on YT using this method. And so- I am more skeptical to liken it to other variables and call it a placebo effect (or in this case, mass hysteria). When people set the intention of growing long or healthy hair, often times people will unconsciously do things to support that mission. They drink more water, eat a little better, they don’t manipulate the hair as much, they are mindful when they detangle their hair, *they take on a consistent practices*. Again, I am in no way wanting to take away rice water from anyone. I don’t think it’s doing drastic harm and capitalism hasn’t figured out a way to exploit it (yet). I just want us to be mindful of *all* practices that help our hair growth, including the indirect ones, and stop looking for miracle products. And to be critical of too good to be true claims from using such products. It’s like wanting to be wealthy and people just wanting the get rich quick scheme and not wanting the boring process of long term investing, living below your means, and increasing your earning potential, etc. If I were a pure capitalist, the natural hair community would be an excellent demographic to pander to because of this mindset.

I’ve heard mention that some people boil their onion juice to diminish/negate the smell which might be worth trying? I also soaked some of the ayurvedic herbs you’ve mentioned in the past for a couple days, then added some organic black rice then froze that concoction too! Once you soaked your hair in the rice water, did you rince it out before adding the deep conditioner or did you apply conditioner while rice water was still in your hair? I'm doing this for the first time tonight. I incorporated ginger and onion juice infused with olive oil and essential oils: rosemary, peppermint, sweet orange, lavender, tea tree. It takes enough edge off the onion smell so I can leave on scalp overnight with a conditioner & olive oil on my strands as a pre boo. After I shampoo in the morning, I'll spray in the DIY hair tea (smells heavenly) and black rice water (infused w/orange zest) combo and top off with a protein free deep conditioner under heat. Looking forward to see how this works out.

Thank you!! Yesterday I used black rice water to after my shampoo. I did not have time to leave it in for 30 mins, so it stayed in about 6-7 minutes while in the shower. I put my conditioner on top of it. After washing it out, my hair was soft, a little darker and my curls were defined. Today I drenched my hair in the shower, used the black rice water for 5 mins with my conditioner on top. I used my Melanin leave in and styling cream, then put my oils on top (black castor, jojoba, grape seed and regular castor oil). My daughter saw my hairs and said, "Wow Mom, I can see every individual coil!" My hair is soft, shiny and moisturized. All this after only using it twice! It will now be a staple routine for me. Next up is the fenugreek spritz tomorrow to refresh it.

Have you ever used fermented black rice water. I stopped using fermented brown rice water and started using the fermented black rice water instead because it has great benefits similar to brown rice but doesn't smell as bad and it grows your hair faster. I find that amazing since I thought my hair was growing great with the fermented brown rice water. I mix the rice water with my conditioner and leave it in for an hour and rinse it out. Like the brown rice water, it left my hair feeling soft, strong, and manageable, but twice the growing power.

Awesome video and most helpful I've come across. Questions: 1. So you fermented the rice AND boiled it? 2. How long was it boiled for? In my Country, we usually parboil the rice before we boil it, does washing it substitute for par boiling? 3. Did you add the oil directly to the rice water? 4. Is it safe to mix apple cider vinegar and herbs to this mix? 5. What was the first thing you applied before you twisted it to add the onion juice to your scalp? I know they're a lot, but I'd really love to know. Thank you!

Yes nutrition is over 60 or 70% of your hair grow. You must stay hydrated also. Also those who are trying MSM, it does contain sulfur and a lot of people have sulfur allergies and don't know it's. If you notice any new slash adverse reactions get that checked out.

Thanks for stating that. I can't stress enough about taking care of our hair from the inside out. It is crucial. Doing homemade DIY'S are great but it's like putting a band-aid on the underlining problem, which is eating nutrient dense foods.

It's unfortunate to read all of the negative comments comparing Curly Proverbz' personal charactertistics to other Black women and talking negative about African-American women when this content is supposed to be positive and empowering to all women especially Black women. The greatest part of having a diverse group of Black women loving on their hair is that everyone is unique and has something to contribute. We all would have benefited from having an Auntie like Curly Proverbz and other Black or African-American youtubers who would have taught us how to take care of our hair and most of all love our hair. Natural hair care is fun. Trying new products and having the opportunity to come to KZitem to watch reviews of products prior to buying, and using them is truly a blessing. Respectively, Curly Proverbz focuses on Ayuverdic, DIY, essential oils, etc. Many African-Americans like to see reviews of products whether natural or not prior to purchasing them i.es Creme of Nature, Aussie, Carole's Daughter, As I Am, Ecostyle gels, Auntie Jackie, Miss Jessie, African Pride, Cantu, and many more. I have seen Curly Proverbz do 2 reviews on Camille Rose and Shea Moisture Hibiscus, so this would impact the amount of subscribers coming from the African-American community. I don't think that Curly Proverbz should change her teaching style and use of products to increase her scribes unless that is what she chooses to do. Her hair is beautiful and her choices in hair care are working beautifully for her. As far as, people leaving her channel for sharing her beliefs about God, I am sorry to hear that. We all come from diverse backgrounds, so if people left her channel because of her spiritual beliefs then they were never intended to be on her channel. She will continue to be blessed without their following.

Curly proverbs, How often do you apply rice water to your hair? I have low porosity hair but I'm hearing i should not use it as much as i do. I use it every other wash and i wash every 3-4days. Do you have any videos in the proper way to use rice water?

I like your videos but I find them a bit confusing to follow. For ex, do you strain the rice water? Did you reboil it and then strain it? When you put it in your hair, did you leave it in for 30 min or so before rinsing? On your other oil video, I couldn't tell if you strain it as there are seeds in it? or do you leave the seeds in and transfer the oil to your hair with a dropper? how do you transfer it to your hair? I want to follow your recipes and tips but I seems to walk wondered if there were steps missing. If you could fill in some gaps, that would be great.
