It's a very beautiful track Richard. The Statement on its own 'They Don't Own Me', is such a strong one considering the controlling world we live in these days, and it's also a strong and meaningful statement coming from you, since so many have tried to categorize you and shut you down ever since starting off, with the verve and solo. It's great that you shout it for all to hear, THEY DON'T OWN YOU. They never did, they don't even own themselves. They are only fools who think you do not know the road you're taking. You know who THESE PEOPLE are. Cheers.

Speaking of those who try to categorize Richard, and shut him down. Bexorcist are you sure you own yourself, seems you can't even stop yourself from stooping so low in your diminished sense of observation and expression. You don't mean to say that you own him right? If you wish to express clearly what makes his albums so crappy, I'm all ears. I hope you understand that the full extent of the phrase 'They don't own me', implies that Richard is not conditioned by the people's praises or inslults. So if you think that you will change his mind by posting comments to degrade him, you're wasting everyone's time, including yours.
@TheFunkloft

Naah, I'm good. i'm not trying to own anyone. I'm just trying to express my frustration for yet another RA failure. I admit, it sounds better than the other 2 singles of the album but that's because it's basically Lucky Man 2.0.

"His reunion with the Verve’s go-to string arranger Wil Malone pays immediate dividends on “They Don’t Own Me,” which plays like a sequel to “Lucky Man,” albeit with the sense of fire-wielding wonderment replaced by hardened resilience. Even better is the atmospheric, dead-of-night rumination “Picture of You,” which mines a haunted melancholy that Ashcroft hasn’t really tapped since “Sonnet” and “The Drugs Don’t Work,” while “Black Lines” yields his most rousing performance in ages. "Listen to the guitar and verse of ‘They Don’t Own Me’ and try to keep ‘Lucky Man’ from your brain while ‘Black Lines’ veers melodically close to ‘The Drugs Don’t Work’. There are even sections when he sounds a lot like people that he really shouldn’t be mirroring: ‘This is How it Feels’ comes across like a showreel he might have submitted to audition for the post-Robbie Take That while, most weirdly of all, a recurring lyrical motif in ‘Hold On’ sounds like he’s about to launch into the Chicken Tonight ad." - Rolling Stone Magazine
