What was so brilliant about the original series was, on top of everything mentioned in the video, that every episode seemed to have both a moral and a unique story which gave a sense of insight and wisdom. Every episode had its purpose, and shed light on various important topics such as enviromental challenges, extinction of animals, sustainable developement, human nature and kindness, fight against racism, YOU NAME IT! They even made an episode to shed light on the deaf community! Such a wonderful show. Highly recommend it to everyone who hasn't seen it. Still super relevant today

"Every episode had it's purpose..." Kindly note that your possessive use of "it's" should be "its". One doesn't use an apostrophe when writing "his", "hers", or "theirs" now do they? The same grammatical principals apply when using "its" possessively to a noun.

One gripe I may have about this show was its excessive use of coincidence. Magyver rarely did anything on behalf of the Phoenix Foundation, which took away from the reality of the show a bit. Once in a while would have been okay. But not most of the time. Know what I’m saying?

Actually it's allure was that the everyman could " MacGyver " . His character was consistently that of an honest man who had a sharp mind that could outthink better equipped opponents. It's a similar trope throughout that time period. Rocky and John McClain were tough everymen . The Steven Siegel and Jean Claude Vandamme characters were ordinary men that trained in martial arts. Even Rambo was seen as the everyman. This was a contrast to the James Bond character that was backed by the government and had that source of unlimited resources .

Like Patty and Selma, I too love McGuyver! I binged watch all McGuyver episodes during a dark period of opioid addiction withdrawal . The genuine goodness and warmth of that show actually made me want to live more clean productive. P.S "Tuff Boyz, Tuff,Tuff,Tuff Boyz"

When I was like 10 or so my father brought me a letter one evening. To my surprise, it read on the envelope United States and the envelope contained Richard's photo with his signature on it. I could hardly believe my eyes I could be holding something from the other side of the pond as well as something thats been sent by MacGyver, my childhood hero. With embarassement I admit I lost it and it is my dream to write to R.D.Anderson and ask for a second chance. At that time I had a less than a basic Command of English, nonetheless more luck to have received his autograph. I would appreciate Richard's addresss so that I could write once more... Thank you

The best. I got all series,watched some episode on the flight week or so ago. Still has my genuine swiss knife that my brother bought for my 15th birthday. On one of my walks in the forest with my dog as a teenager, I sprained my ankle, no mobile phone era and my dog dissapear but as the scared girl started to panic overwhelmed with pain and tears rolling down, swelling on her ankle… here came a thought ‘what would McGyver do?’ She took off her vest layer and fixed it around her ankle, dried the tears, counted 5 then stood up, and with direct voice called her dog who ran fast towards her. I couldn’t figure out the physics behind building helicopter out of leaves but she walked through the pain for another almost an hour home. Her mother still told her off for being late but that day she became her own hero😂😂 with Mc’s first aid ‘trick’😂so funny when i think back but yeah, I would be still sitting there and crying 🎉🎉

I think the reboot would have been best if instead of remaking the original MacGyver, they made it his son, Sam's story. It would have been perfect. The younger actor would have fit the role and the original fans would have accepted it.

You nailed it, that's exactly it! That's how they could have had a chance at bringing MacGyver back, and that is the only way it could work. As a sequel instead of a "redo". The original series left it open for for such writing and it could have actually been really good if they took that angle.

Macgyver came out when I was 10. As a creative, active kid, I loved it from the beginning. My Dad was a kind of philosophical mountain man type. And he liked Macgyver as a role model. But my best friends dad was a heavily religious Baptist and he saw my friend watching an episode that was a little more graphic than the others. I think maybe someone got stabbed or something. My friend came to me woefully, "Macgyver is on trial. Dad is going to watch on episode with me, and if he finds it objectionable, I can't watch it anymore." The next episode was "The Widowmaker." That's the episode where Macgyver's arch-nemisis, Murdoc returns after Macgyver loses his friend whose harness breaks and falls off the mountain. If you'll remember, at the end of this episode, Murdoc accidentally cuts his own rope and falls off the mountain yelling, "Macgyyyveeeeer!". After the episode I asked my friend who it went. "Well, he made a weird face when Murdoc brought out the flamethrower, but at the end said, 'that wasn't so bad.'" My friend was saved!

I remember finding out MacGyver had been canceled by literally waiting for a year for new episodes and not getting any, then realizing that's why the last ep I watched felt like a series finale. The best thing about how they ended the show is that there was no rush at the end or any feeling like the show was getting the axe at all. It was just, "Oh, btw, no more seasons after this."
@chavezchavo

It was a brilliant show. Heck, whenever anyone jury-rigs something, the term people would use it "He McGuyvered it" or "He became McGuyver and fixed it".
@Nempo13

Richard's time in SG1 effected things in a great way. His old role was routinely mentioned by the characters. Macgyver was a TV show in that world and the term was used for jury rigging things repeatedly on it...but NEVER by O'Neal. They intentionally never had Richard's character mention his previous lead role and instead had the younger members around him refer to it. It was a great nod to him as an actor that defined TV for awhile and in having that Macgyver spirit you often saw the group jury rig things together as Macgyver would just to survive.

A spin-off of MacGyver would have been a common thing as it is these days. I could see a soin-off like MacGyver, but with RDA appearing as a special guest or as someone in a mentor role to special agents. I miss MacGyver and respect RDA. We need more shows like MacGyver to teach that you don't need guns to be smart.

Sequel would have been better. Imagine: RDA reprises his role as the one and only Angus MacGyver, now natural mentor to his long-lost son, Sam, whom was already introduced as a capable bad-ass during final season of original run; Bruce McGill returns periodically as the true Jack Dalton, aged as he would be; Michael Des Barres returns as Murdoc, training his successor. MacGyver has left the Phoenix Foundation (see S7E13) and is freelancing with his son, at least for starters -- RIP Dana Elcar
