I bought my RM11 03 Titanium exactly 2 years ago and paid the retail price of $123k, I was in the boutique 2 weeks ago and the 2021 list price has gone up to it $159k. It is selling on Chrono 24 for an average price of $224k currently.

Easily the most comfortable watches on the market. And Eric my preferences are the RM005 in white gold and the RM010 because I have a smaller wrist. Love them.

Eric, you’re killing me with this yacht. What a beauty (Al Mirqab), but Utopia IV is still my fav. As for RM, your analysis is spot on regarding Mille’s luxury strategy. He’s selling the “air of exclusivity” to his UHNW clients - aka “You can buy this; they cannot.” I am not a big RM fan, (I like a few pieces like the blue strap 11-05), but this video was excellent with background, info, music, and b-roll - all next level.

It's a "upscale" Hublot. Sure it doesn't have a generic movement like Hublot but "technology" doesn't equal craftsmanship. These watches are indeed a fad, a watch for young and hip rich people that don't want to wear Patek because it's "boring". Problem is young people get old and buy Pateks and the next generation of trust fund kids will want to be different (because that's the point) so they will find another flavor of the decade ultra luxury watch brand to flaunt their wealth.

From the relatively limited amount that I know about them, they were synonymous with F1 motor racing with the high-tech materials. They are a tonneau case Shape. I think Richard Mille worked for AP, or a company closely associated with them, as did Philippe Dufour. Philippe Massa, from the Ferrari Scuderia F1 team, was an early F1 ambassador and the selling point was the high-tech construction and materials, allowing a mechanical watch to withstand the G Forces generated in breaking and arccelerating , like in a Golf swing, with Bubba Watson, or Tennis with Raffa Nadal. I don't think they have a rotor, to remove the possibility of damage at high G and are therefore manual wind only. There are obviously people with the means to buy them, but I don't know how they can justify the price: Either for the construction or materials: I think, like Ariel Adams of 'A Blog To Watch' says in his 'Superlative' and 'Spending Time' podcasts: most high tech materials are cheap, like Sapphire, which is just Aluminium Oxide power, or Silicon Dioxide powder. I don't exactly know what RM TPT carbon is, possibly Titanium Carbide, but it has no historical significance, like Gold or Platinum does, gong back millennia. Like my uncle used to say, in relation to HiFi systems: 'The Law of Diminishing Returns' applies: Once you reach a certain quality level and price level, the more money you throw at it, the less and less you get back. I've seen Richard Mille interviewed at the last SIHH he attended, in January 2018, where he released the Bon Bon collection, see below: I'm not sure if he has his own manufacture; or the watches are made under license by someone else, possibly like Jacob @ Co. may also do. I was listening to Jean Claude Biver, saying that Swiss watches last a century or more, like Big Ben, the bell in the clock tower over our Houses of Parliament in Westminster, London, is a mechanical clock over a Century old and still working. ALS don't use silicon for the following reason, see SIHH 2017 video below from 23:30. You cannot maintain it indefinitely, by fabricating a new part to replacement a part when the spare parts are exhausted and no longer manufactured decades down the line, so the watch will be discarded instead of being a family heirloom. Like Rolex don't apparently have any spare parts, or manufacture them as a matter of course for watches pre-1970. A lot of modern watches use silicon parts that are a-magnetic and you need a space age factory to manufacture them, it can't be done by hand. RM has no history, back to only 1997 or the early 2000s. I suppose Hublot only goes back 40 years to 1980. But if I was spending that kind of money, I'd want a super complication like like the 1940s Patek Philippe manufactured for Henry Graves, super complication clock, auctioned around 2015 and which broke records pre the October 2017 auction at Phillips on Park Avenue NYC, Paul Newman 6239 Rolex Daytona. A RM watch could end up collecting dust in a draw in 50-years, as they cannot be maintained or repaired. A very expensive white elephant: Richard Mille interview at his last SIHH in 2018 with Watch Advisor Alexander Linz and Wei Koh of Revolution Watch, Singapore. kzitem.info/news/bejne/qXyQsHh-nIFymag kzitem.info/news/bejne/l6l4uHueoqN5rKjV Anthony De Haas ALS Product Development Manager in a 2017 SIHH Facebook Live broadcast, on ALS You Tube Channel, including Hodinkee CEO Ben Clymer, who asks (at 23:30, why ALS don't use silicon/ selicium in their watches): ADH answers that in 100 years, the current owner's great grandson couldn't get the watch repaired, as you cannot currently hand fabricate silicon parts: From 23:35: kzitem.info/news/bejne/k4CfyoF7sYqTf2U

I have to agree that the RM 11 is a good choice. Personally, if I had the budget, I would choose one of the round RM’s. I know they aren’t as popular. I tried one on in the boutique in Boston. It was incredible. I asked them if many people in Boston buy RM’s. They said, not really. Most of the watches they sell are shipped overseas. Although, the day before I was there, a women in her seventies walked in and dropped 200k on a watch. They had never seen her before.

Eric you have yet again managed to produce a great video, really enjoyed this. I can appreciate that RM is going after the 1% but I think there is a flip-side to that, it's possible to go *too* far with how "elite" your brand becomes. The 1% will never tell you they're 1%, so I won't say that, but I do alright for myself - well enough to be a fan of watches. But even for me, saying that I want to buy an RM is like saying I want to buy the planet Neptune. Never mind the money, how do you actually *do* it? Like where do you even begin with that? I think RM has crossed that line where it feels just plain unobtainable, no matter who you are.
