Richard Mulder's Skateboarding Journey
Richard Mulder began his skateboarding journey in 1987 in San Dimas. He started on a neighbor's swap meet board and was inspired by Tom Krauser's ollies. Despite his family's financial struggles, Richard's passion grew, leading him to trade his G.I. Joe toys for a Steadham Sure Grip Intl' board.
As a young skater, Richard admired many pros, especially Lance Mountain and Steve Caballero. He later found favorites like Matt Hensley. Richard moved to Fontana, where he joined a vibrant skate scene and met future legends like Daewon Song and Daniel Castillo at CASL contests in 1991.
Richard's career took off when Christian Hosoi noticed him skating at the Encinitas YMCA, leading to a stint with Milk Skateboards. Soon after, Josh Beagle invited Richard to join Foundation Skateboards. This collaboration resulted in the iconic "Cocktails" video.
In a significant career move, Rodney Mullen invited Richard to join World Industries, which led to his involvement in a notable industry feud. Despite the drama, Richard thrived, skating with the likes of Daewon and becoming part of the Chocolate Skateboards team.
During his time with Chocolate, Richard filmed memorable parts for videos like "Mouse" and participated in creative skits for "The Chocolate Tour." His career highlights include skating iconic spots like Chaffey High and being part of the influential World Industries and Chocolate crews.
Richard's career eventually transitioned to real estate and founding Heel Bruise, a skateboarding brand. He also reconnected with Christian Hosoi, supporting each other in their spiritual journeys. Today, Richard continues to influence the skateboarding community through Heel Bruise and his commitment to faith and family.
