This piece is absolutely amazing, especially when brought to life on the viola. I love O'Neil's interpretation of it; he plays with such passion!

What a really beautiful piece...I love the 'warm' emotive sound of the Viola if that makes any sense. It's not harsh, not too treble, not too bass, it's just right.

The piece itself is a masterpiece! And even if originally it was written for a violin it sounds amazing on a viola as well! Great performance, very meditative and calming but touching...

I would like to see TwoSetViolin comment on on this 🤓. Obviously there’s at least one super talented viola player out there. By the way, this guy sometimes played together with excellent violinist Stefan Jackiw . (Stefan Jackiw is one of my favorite violinist, and Brett and Eddy are also praising Stefan as an excellent musician).

Well, the viola gang better rise up, eh? 😉 Richard O Neill is a legend, founder of Ensemble Ditto. Such talent! Jackiw was a key member. They’re the coolest chamber music group, except they just disbanded after 12 years.

The "interrupt" is not his intention. this video is from Korean TV program "Classic odyssey". I feel same annoyance, but you have to blame the editor. not player. the editor absolutely ruined this video. but I can't stop this video... it is so sweeeet!

Very good. One thing I do not understand, is not technically legal, the left hand the whole pie, not stirred, the right hand seems tense. My teacher would return to the open string, in fact it back either. rsrsr But the video is left after all this, he has a beautiful sound. That's what impresses me. Very good

@klkjlpoj As professional musician I have performed also in schools, colleges and universities in front of more or less 100.000 students. There is a very clear law: Music is music and word is word! Mixing music and word is always destroying the musical expression. That’s why you first explain the music, maybe play some of the notes. Then you perform the entire musical piece. Yet never ever you play 5 minutes and then you start speaking!!!

I don't think Mr. O'Neil intentionally inserted his interpretation of this piece in the middle of his playing. Sometimes video editors love to mix performers' playing and interview. Intertwined performance and interview brings great sound and visual effect time to time, and I guess this particular editor was trying to do something like that. Your assumption is off the violist's viewpoint, and I am shocked how you could see his arrogance on this. He is simply expressing his interpretation.

Have you ever seen a lover telling his girl friend during the love-act the chemical reactions of his body? You do it! Blame over this video! I give nearly never a dislike. You got one!. I am really shocked about the arrogance of a musician to interrupt the music he pretends to understand. Biber has to tell us something without words. So Mr. Richard O'Neill shut up if you are a real musician and play the music. If you want to explain something then do it before or after playing the music.
