OhNyquist My father didn't think he'd see our beloved Capitals win the Stanley Cup in his lifetime, look what happened. The NHL is crazy and anything could happen.

OhNyquist depending on your age you already kind of got one. Detroit was stacked in the mid-late '90s through the late 2000s even if they didn't win the cup every year. They won four over the course of ten (err eleven) years, something so-called new-age cap era dynasty teams Pittsburgh and Chicago have yet to do.

Rocket was a GOD in Montreal. He was the start to making the habs the most winning team in NHL history. Still hate the toilet seats with a passion though.

This is bigger than what you made it. This was a buildup for years. The Rocket didn't get caught once punching an official that was his second time that year. In the war the French Canadians refused to go to war. There was also inequality where French would get paid less than the English at this time. Hockey being what it is and Montreal being mostly French Canadians they ended up being in a lot of fights especially with Toronto. Montreal which is a bilingual city still to this day have a divide between the French and English. So when The Rocket got suspended it triggered the newspapers. Fans knew that Campbell was going to be there. There was over 10 000 people outside the forum and 15000 PR so inside. Campbell got attacked and the game was shut down and people where thrown into the streets and the riot. That riot is the beginning of the separatist movement. This was the first time French Canadians took it to the man. This is also what turned the Rocket from a legend to a mythical person. He has statues of him all over Quebec. When you cross the bridge closest to Parliament in Ottawa there's a statue of the Rocket. Funny enough the Rocket was never a separatist and was outspoken federalist.

Bender Alley - You will never get it. This was a civil rights movement. The suspension was only the catalyst. The French vs English thing is still going in hockey today when Babcock said he didn't want any French Canadians for the World Cup. This riot started equality between French and English to the point where you need both languages in most of Canada to become a high ranking public servant.

Total NHL and it was published in 2003. I only need it until the 1981 season as I have annuals and my memory from there.

3 in 4 with there only being 6 teams is a LOT easier than it is today with 32 or 34 teams ... and a salary cap.

What is it with big Canadian markets and riots? 😛 if the Leafs win the Cup should we worry about chaos in the streets of Toronto?
@answeris4217
6 жыл бұрын
jasonfire34 - This riot was not about the Rocket being suspended. The Rocket being suspended was the spark. There was just as many people outside of the forum that night as inside. This was a start to a French movement in Quebec that lead into the separatist movement. This was bigger than the Rocket and it made the Rocket bigger than hockey.

emisoccer • He’s one of my great uncles. I’m not gonna say I’m glad my Grandfather didn’t play for Montreal, but I wouldn’t have been born if he did lol. He was in their system, but decided not to play because my great grandfather didn’t want him to leave the family, like how it was turning out for his siblings.
