Believing Richard to be a spiritual external force for the characters attempting to adjust their path in life, is pretty interesting. Richard sort of seemed like just an internal manifestation of guilt and uncertainty inside the characters themselves, the last part of them being unsure about whether to continue this violence, although that might be trying too hard to simplify it. Also considering Richard's appearance as a rooster mask, roosters do have some symbolic meaning. The story of St. Peter has the rooster be a symbol of repentance, as well as being a warning in the story. Roosters crowing at dawn also has significance as a new day/beginning, possibly aligning with Evan being the only one actually following the advice and returning to his family. Tropical storms also just happen in Miami, that wasn't from Richard.

One thing you need to know when moving forward. Jacket doesn't care at all about the calls. It's the perfect copium for him because of Beard. He doesn't get killed because he is getting close, he's getting killed because he fucked up big... twice. EDIT: I would recommend reading the comics

I had to play it 2 times to catch it. This is pretty much a video for people who are like "Wtf was up with that rooster guy" after finishing the game. The story is kinda complex.

I’ve seen quite a few theories with differing ideas, as well as people who haven’t been able to tie much evidence together to solidify their argument, so this is basically just the “toe in the water” theory as a gateway to be able to talk about more. If I were to do a Hotline Miami series (which is currently the plan), Richard is the first that needs to be talked about.

@@RemGames If so That's Great to hear and Also as said in that Comment PLEASE TALK ABOUT THE BAR OF THE BROKEN HEROES. It's probably the only thing In Hotline Miami which has a Lot of Room for theories. Many Details Point to Biker's Death while others point to him staying Alive. I'd be interesting to hear

I saw a theory a while ago that I really like, that Richard is actually the colonel, the founder of 50 blessings. The main idea is that when Beard asks if they have met before, Richard says that they have, and in the intro to casualties, when the colonel dons the panther's face, Richards theme plays in the background. The person who came up with it said that it's possible that colonel died at some point before 1991, but after the events of Jacket's rampage, and that would explain why he first appears to jacket, because its personal to him since Jacket was a member of his beloved unit. And when he died, his punishment for the founding of 50 blessings was to eternally watch the events he put in motion, and life forever watching the apocalypse he is responsible for. Hotline Miami is a personal hell for the colonel, AKA Richard.

I heard the Colonel was with the hit crew that killed the president so I doubt he died before 1991

Bro, the video is nice and all, for the love of God, if I hear someone use the term purgatory one more time incorrectly i'm gonna lose it. Purgatory is a place that, as the name implies, purges you of sinful habits and desires. Because this place exists exclusively in Catholic canon, not having a 1 to 1 equivalent in most other religions, then it's safe to say people who reference this word in their work should at least TRY to be loyal to the source material. When people talk about fictional characters who are dead and are reliving their failure/death over and over again, that's describing hell. Not purgatory. Hell. I hate people who use "purgatory" so they don't sound like they're just repeating words they read online, but ironically do just that when they incorrectly use purgatory as a stand in for hell. According to Catholic canon, purgatory, though at first glace seems like a hellish landscape, do not suffer like the inhabitants of hell. Where those in hell have no hope of escape, those in purgatory have the hope and promise that one day they will be clean enough to enter Heaven. This description does NOT fit 99% of youtuber's theories of dead characters. This video included.
