He was a great actor I always liked him . You know he always came across as a cynical sort of character on the screen , even when he was playing nice guy roles . He was nothing like that in real life and that's a testimony on how good an actor he actually was . What a lucky lady his wife was , a completely devoted loving husband and father . A rare gem of a man especially in Hollywood. R.I.P. dear Richards Widmark

Once again, thank you Mr. Skinner for another fine video. Richard Widmark was one of my favorite actors of the fifties and sixties. I still can hear in my head his high pitch sneering gangster voice and giggle laugh, acting as a sociopathic gunsell from one of his early movies....I don't know the title, but it was from late forties or 1950 or so. Thanks again. Actors like him and other very strong types in western movies shaped me, because during combat duty in the spring of 1969, three of us one day were walking abreast of one another down the dirt street in Ben Luc, a dusty little river village. We wore side arms and it was about high noon that day. We were headed for the bar in town and the thought ran through my mind that I was living the real deal, not acting it out in a movie like Clint Eastwood or John Wayne, both of whom I have always respected and enjoy their film work. Clint Eastwood's western, "The Unforgiven", is one where I identify with Eastwood's character, especially at the end when he rides through the town warning the people that he would come back and kill those responsible and burn their buildings down if they harm the working women. About a month after that noon day walk, my unit and I were ambushed and we proceeded to destroy about a mile of river bank village at point blank range, at sunset, where women, children, animals and men were going about their business. I blew up one building with my weapon among other strafing. Unforgiven. I did locate a 9 year old girl for her Vietnamese parents about a year later in Danang. She had disappeared into the Vietnamese medical system and had been missing for about a year, I was a Village Assistance Team Leader and took a week and found her. So maybe that is my salvation, otherwise my gravestone is going to read Unforgiven.

Thank you Xraydelta 100, The old saying "War is hell" is true. Although you are not alone, some of the most noble men of the bible were warriors. David comes to mind, who killed in battle, but at the same time was a man after Gods own heart. I am sure he killed even when he did not have to. Remember he sent Bathshebas husband to be killed in battle so he could have his wife. And yet God loved him and he is sitting in heaven today. Good luck my friend. Jerry

Never heard one actor that worked with Marilyn Monroe say she was strong, self possessed, etc. So sad. I understand. She was orphaned. Rejection by both parents undermines all self-confidence or feeling lovable. Her life was so sad and tragic. I wished she hadn't became famous but met a man who made her feel incredibly loved and had children who adored her. Maybe she would have stood a chance.

To me he will always be Jim Bowie. He was one of those actors that had true 'presence', not because of his size or fame but because he was a true craftsman who worked at his craft and kept his feet on the ground. The early photography was amazing, the image after the cinema where his grandmother took with the movement in the vehicles was fantastic. I've seen a few of these videos now and every one of them is faultless, they are respectful, informative and incredibly well put together.
