It's heartbreaking to see him talking about the film, it was his baby and his precious and it was pulled out from under him.

Wow, it's so hard to watch him talk all optimistically about the film...not knowing what would happen to his masterwork in only a few years.

The work that has been put in the thief and the cobbler is absolutely amazing, i've never ever seen anything of that scale in an animated film, so many details, poetry, and true art in every single frame. I salute Richard for his passion and thank him for bringing this masterpiece to the world. It's a shame it wasn't under his control till the end :(

Not Disney, but the Completion Bond Corporation. Miramax (owned by Disney, but is not Disney) ruined it even more after it was already "finished". And yes, this is depressing, seeing Williams talking about it without knowing what's going to happen.

I don't think all of the artwork has been lost. Supposedly, Disney still has a lot of the important artwork, cels, shot negative and WORKPRINTS etc. in its vaults. I can't understand why there isn't any further interest in bringing the film back to life. Williams is 75 and despite his unwillingness to even talk about the film any longer, I bet that if there were a real offer made with real financing to finish the picture with his old key staff he might have second thoughts.

How could you be so knowingly horrible to someone? He spent 23 years of his life on his masterpiece BEFORE disney funded the remainder. They then stole it and pissed on it.

A few years ago, I brought The Theif and the Cobbler into my college animation class (they hadn't heard of it). So I at least helped bring it to a few more people :) .

Wow!!! I just came to this story, and it just becomes more and more fascinating....someone should write a book about "the masterpiece that never was"...thrown out? Really? This story just gets sadder and sadder. What a tragedy.

I hope so. I watched it on here, and in my opinion it's one of the best animated films ever made. I personally think it is THE best animated film ever made! Even after the hatchet job disney did. I hope he gets to finish it finally after all these years!
