I have been watching a lot of blading videos lately and I don't see how the sport could just die off like it did, it seems like more of an art form to me than other action sports, good riders are so fluid and stylish, I think the sport needs to make a comeback

C´mon blading is so cool... what happens is that people has always denied it... such a very underrated sport.
@CuddlyJon
5 жыл бұрын
It hasn't always been denied. It was super popular in the 90s. Roller skating in general is just a yoyo sport. Swings in and out of popularity.

@@CuddlyJon indeed, you are right... still cannot grasp why too much changing, though...
@CuddlyJon

@@jluisqg Well, skateboarders definitely gave us a hard time. Aggressive skating was seen as "too easy" and that skateboarding was the next best thing. Honestly, if you ask me, I think much of the stigma that comes from roller skating is its history. The stigma is that roller skating is an "old timey" activity and that skateboarding is for the young and hip, despite the fact that many youngsters partook in aggressive inline during the 90s. It became a trend to skateboard, and wherever there's a trend, people will follow. It was the same case when roller skating was trendy in the 90s, lol.

@@CuddlyJon This is a very good insight, fellow… can´t deny its very low popularity, matter of fact the majority of people may prefer skateboarding than aggressive blading… I reckon both activities” have its particular “level of complexity”… though, at the end of the day people shouldn´t underestimate any other sport which may not be their favorite… each sport demands something” which the other may not…
@JeremiahDoctsonFitness

@@CuddlyJon IMHO I don't think it's about it being old timey or anything, as someone who literally grew through that transition, once a skater and then a skateboarder skating simply became known as lame... it just simply was harder to look cool in the skatepark on a pair of skates than it was with a skateboard. Skateboarding had some other advantages people liked like being able to bail in the event of a failed trick, not having to get cramped feet wearing skates all day and the added bonus of being able to now show off shoes... things like that. Then the fact that skateboards had more room for design and customization, the fact that you can actually do tricks of course by flipping the board in the air instead of only spins and grabs with skates absent of anything to grind on. I also remember "Fruit Loop Boots" was was harsher of an insult than the "Wood pusher" skaters were able to come up with back to skateboarders......Skateboarding simply beat skating out. Also you could get a quality skateboard set up the pros used for 100 bucks or even less sometimes and from there always have something to work with so you don't have to get a full set again (trucks, board, wheels, etc), whereas I remember there were less skates, and there was a huge gap between the crappy stuff and what pros were using which were 2, 3 sometimes even 400 bucks. Don't get me wrong I love both and as an athletic person I was always better at skating than I ever got at skateboarding lol

Man, I remember when I used to "aggressive skate", back before I even began skateboarding. Back in the 4th-7thish grade. Memories with my friends....great times, this video brought back a lot of those thoughts. All I can remember is some skates called "Oshmans" or something my friend had that I thought were the best thing at the time, used to sell them at Academy...
