One of my favorite Ramone. Besides being a great drummer, he really gave a hardcore punk sound to the Ramones, and wrote some of their best songs. It's a shame how unappreciated his work towards the band is.

Yes I agree I think the problem is people were so used to seeing marky in the band that that is who they were used to so having a guy like Richie who didn’t look like your typical ramone must have been off putting at first but his drumming fitted in so well with the much tougher punk sound that newer bands were adopting at the time e.g minor threat, black flag, verbal abuse the list goes on but it just seemed to me that as soon as they didn’t want Richie anymore they let him go with not much money and marky came back that was obvious they weren’t going to look any further which Is a shame

I'm from Australia, but it seems like the New York area in the 1970s was its own distinct galaxy, with separate planets orbiting around Manhattan.. And on these planets, the various boroughs, there were distinct universes. I don't think he is still angry with the other Ramones, he is just letting the fans know that they are just normal everyday people who where special in their own way. I think the time he was in the band was special to him, but as we know he left because of the financial situation over his cut of the t-shirt money,etc...
@rubym357
9 жыл бұрын
Johnny gave Richie a bad rap in Commando- all because of T-shirt money! The Ramones fucked each other over, it's true. But the touring schedule was murderous, it went beyond the standard 8 months for a typical band, the payment structure had to be tweaked, and they made LOTS of money on merchandise. They knew people wore their T-shirts more for fashion than for fandom. Too Tough to Die would not have been as good without Richie. Between Dee Dee's manic depression and heroin addiction and the Joey-Johnny-Linda FUBAR the band nearly imploded. The punk from Passaic carried the can, I think. At least he and Joey made up before he died, and he even worked on his second album, Ya Know?
@rackaid14

2 things… 1. It was written in his contract that only original members were entitled to t-shirt money so johnny wasn’t all in the wrong there, yes i think he should’ve gave him many a little bit but it was written there, even richie admits now that he should’ve got it in his contract to give him merch money.. so both are in the wrong 2. him and joey never made up.. after he ghosted the ramones he never spoke or talked to joey or johnny again.. i believe deedee visited richie before he died but richie and joey never spoke again or made up which is very sad and you can tell richie has guilt for it in his book..

richie's great. everyone loves "too tough to die"; "animal boy" is hit and miss, but has great stuff on it. "halfway to sanity" is way underrated, i think its fuckin' great. if you like the ramones but also hard rock, 80's hardcore, and thrash, it's fantastic. the drums are fantastic on all 3, perfect for the sound they had then. his new solo album ("entitled") kicks ass, and he is a good punk vocalist (as old ramones demos already proved). All that said, why the f'n suit dude? rotfl. weird decision. he always wears the leather jacket these days(good decision!)
