The movement at about 3:05 is a perfect demonstration of the Taoist verse: 'In motion, be like water, at rest like a a mirror, respond like an echo, be subtle as though non existent.' Wonderful application of movement and technique - Sensei Rick is without doubt the master technician of karate.

Alongside 30yrs of Martial arts, I have10yrs of Yoga training in India, where for reasons I do not understand the classes are 90% male students with the opposite being the case in the UK where the students are 90% female. Whilst training with a 9th Dan TKD he told us that ALL martial arts are 80% the same, relaxation and breathing with the difference in techniques used the 20% that represented difference, I did not understand at the time I do know and I also understand how yoga can vastly improve your martial arts, I am 66yrs old and have recently started Shotokan as a white belt and it keeps my trousers up really well. OSU my martial arts brothers and sisters! Sensei Hotton is a real treasure and he most certainly has my utmost respect!

I'd give up one eye to participate to his lessons. He's just too good. Everything makes sense, everything is effective, everything has a purpose with him. I was sick of mimicking katas and stuff without understanding what I was doing.

as a judo and aiki jiu jitsu practitioner, I can tell sensei hotton has a high understanding of flowing and merging into the attacks, but as a small correction, that technique is "tani-otoshi" not irimi nague.. other than that good stuff as always... osss :)

Luis Tejada you walk truly humbling yourself you had to bring it back to you you see that's your problem like a lot of people on KZitem they can't just watch a KZitem video especially in the comments section for whatever reason their ego is so strong they have to even in a compliment bring it back to them self and correct somebody so now that you claim that you are a jiu jitsu Judo Aikido expert and so on so forth even though you're trying to tell me that I wasn't paying attention to what you said I read everything I read that you paid this person a constructive critical compliment that in actuality pulled it back to you because the attention wasn't put on you it was put on someone else in a video this person is a master and he's fantastic in every single way and does not need your correction I guarantee you that if you were to correct him he would be more than willing to be humble but the fact is you wouldn't humble yourself and just listening you would have to make some sort of comment there for everything and what he says is correct and everything and what you say is incorrect and no he does not have to make any corrections based on your critique

Tani otoshi is an arm throw in karate. Basically what so called seoi ippon nage in judo & bjj. As others have pointed out, different arts have different names for the same move & the same names may very well refer to completely different moves.
